Border Patrol will stop wearing body cameras
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) made an announcement this week that will likely have Dems outraged.
CBP agents will no longer wear body cameras, but it is not for the reason that Democrats are likely to push.
Cartel Trades Fire with Border Agents
Several weeks ago, a shocking event took place at the border where cartel operatives opened fire on border patrol agents.
The attack occurred in the early afternoon, near Fronton, TX.
Lt. Chris Olivarez updated the situation in X, posting, “DPS responded to assist the US Border Patrol after agents received gunfire from cartel members in Mexico while patrolling in Fronton.
“DPS drone operators captured the gunmen fleeing Mexico due to military presence and seeking refuge on an island between the US and Mexico.”
Security Risk
We don’t know if that incident was related to the recent announcement by CBP, but you have to wonder how the cartel operatives were ready to attack. They seemed to be in perfect position, almost as if they know where our agents were coming and when they would get there.
I found the announcement that a mobile app called BLE Radar can detect body cameras from about 100 yards to be quite disturbing, but that is why CBP agents will no longer wear cameras.
The CBP announced, "All U.S. Border Patrol Agents will cease the use of body-worn cameras (BWC) in all operational environments.
"Pending completion of investigation and risk mitigation, all Agents will stand down the use of their BWCs [body worn cameras] until further notice. Additional guidance and information will be disseminated as it is received.”
Wait for It
We all know how Democrats are going to react to this announcement.
They will claim agents are up to nefarious activity, and they want to make sure they are not filmed when they are going these acts, but that is all nonsense.
These agents are already doing a very dangerous job, often approaching stash houses or tunnels used by human traffickers, gun dealers, and drug dealers to bring people and products into the United States illegally. For them to be successful, they must have the element of surprise for the safety of the agents. We saw what happened last week when Homan did a raid and there was an alleged leak. They need every advantage they can get.
Dems can whine about this all they want, but until they can fit these agents with cameras that cannot be detected by apps, the cameras need to stay off.
