Bush and Obama team up to take shots at USAID shutdown
This week, USAID was shuttered, and the operation has been folded into the State Department under Secretary of State Rubio.
Democrats are going berserk, and there is at least one former Republican president who is not happy either.
President Bush joined Obama to send best wishes to staffers at USAID and take a shot at Trump in the process.
People Will Die
When USAID first went on the chopping block, the narratives being put out were ridiculous.
I say this because the good programs under this umbrella were never at risk.
What was being cut were programs like trans comic books and parades in other countries, as well as the money funnels to partisan liberal programs.
Even so, publications like NPR published fearmongering pieces about how millions of people would die because of these cuts.
I’m Taking Over
This has been a pet project of Rubio’s from the outset, so he took the lead in announcing that USAID was officially done.
He stated, "As of July 1st, USAID will officially cease to implement foreign assistance."
Rubio continued, "Foreign assistance programs that align with administration policies -- and which advance American interests -- will be administered by the State Department, where they will be delivered with more accountability, strategy, and efficiency."
To be clear, there are still billions allocated to programs that were being operated under USAID, but the nonsense has been cut out.
Going to the Dark Side
As a shot against Trump, both Obama and Bush recorded messages to send to the outgoing staffers of USAID.
Obama’s message stated, "Gutting USAID is a travesty, and it’s a tragedy. Because it’s some of the most important work happening anywhere in the world."
Bush added, "You’ve showed the great strength of America through your work — and that is your good heart. Is it in our national interests that 25 million people who would have died now live? I think it is, and so do you."
At some point, there will be a true report on how much money was wasted by USAID since its inception, and how much went to money funnels to take care of operatives of former presidents. USAID was founded on a great idea, but that idea became corrupt about 10 seconds after the doors opened, as always seems to happen in our government.
