Call for Resignation of Secret Service Director After Assassination Attempt

After a shooter managed to climb a rooftop and get a shot off in an attempted assassination of Donald Trump, fingers are starting to point.

Rightfully so, most of those fingers are pointing at the Director of the Secret Service.

The calls to resign seem to grow with every passing hour.

Step Down

Prior to serving in the Secret Service, Cheatle worked for PepsiCo as the Senior Director of Global Security.

However, before working for Pepsi, she had spent nearly three decades working in the Secret Service, with her most recent post being the Assistant Director of the Office of Protective Operations.

Apparently, in all her experience, covering rooftops within 200 yards of a president was not in security briefings.

The shooter was apparently spotted in plenty of time to prevent a shot from being taken, with one witness stating, “I’m thinking to myself ‘Why is Trump still speaking, why have they not pulled him off the stage’… the next thing you know, five shots ring out”

Criticisms quickly rang out after the failed assassination.

For instance, Blake Hall, the Founder & CEO of ID.Me, stated, “I was the Sniper Employment Officer for my battalion and led hundreds of combat missions.

“There were major security lapses in the security plan that allowed a shooter to engage President Trump from – 130 meters – an easy shot.”

A briefing was held on Monday, claiming that particular rooftop was the responsibility of the local police, but that will do little to stop the calls for Cheatle to step down.

New York City Councilwoman Vickie Paladino (R) stated, “Purely appointments of wildly unqualified individuals like this have grave consequences for our nation, and today’s assassination attempt proves it. Get these people OUT of government.”

To that point, Cheatle’s main goal after being named was to increase female recruits by 30%. So, once again, rather than the most qualified, we are looking to check boxes.

And that is not a knock against female agents, as I am sure there are plenty of them that are outstanding at their jobs, but specifically targeting a race or gender is idiotic when you are talking about protecting a president.

To be honest, it scares me more that Cheatle appears more interested in deflecting than in taking ownership of the failures.

To me, her resignation should have already been handed in.
