Carville says Dems will avoid Harris like the plague
Kamala Harris, after being selected as Joe Biden’s VP, had been anointed as the chosen one by the party.
Her disastrous vice presidency and subsequent failure to beat Donald Trump, however, have people thinking twice about that.
Former Democrat strategist James Carville now believes that the party will avoid Harris and look elsewhere for 2028.
Not Running
The only way I could see Harris reviving her career after that election would have been to run for governor in California.
However, I had also stated that announcing in 2028 would be a mistake after just taking office, so I expected her to run, then run again in 2030, while announcing in 2032 that she would take another shot.
Harris stunned everyone, including this writer, stating, “Over the past six months, I have spent time reflecting on this moment in our nation’s history and the best way for me to continue fighting for the American people and advancing the values and ideals I hold dear.
“I have given serious thought to asking the people of California for the privilege to serve as their governor. I love this state, its people and its promise. It is my home. But after deep reflection, I’ve decided that I will not run for Governor in this election.”
Don’t Worry
With Harris not running for governor, the natural assumption is that she will sit on the sidelines until the 2028 election and run again, but Carville is saying not so fast.
Now, if you read my reports regularly, you know I don’t put much faith in Carville’s predictions, so you can take this how you see fit.
On Harris running again, he stated, "Don’t be terrified. She wisely chose not to run for governor of California."
He also stated she will not be the nominee, adding, "Anybody that had anything to do with 2024, the party wants to move on from that. This isn’t anybody’s fault."
If Not Harris, Who?
There is movement to have AOC run, but I don’t see it happening, at least not yet. I think AOC will wait for Senator Schumer (D-N.Y.) to retire, then run for his seat, then possibly make a run for the White House after having a record in the Senate. She really needs to get a leadership position before making such a big move.
Gavin Newsom is a natural choice, and he has been making moves, but his record is atrocious, not that it matters to Democrat voters. But I do believe he will be in the mix.
My gut tells me that someone who is trailing badly in current polling is going to rise up and grab the ring for Democrats, and I have some feelings on this.
If I had to place a wager right now, I would put my money on PA Governor Josh Shapiro or Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA), if I were a betting man. They are both likely very big longshots right now, but I really think this race is going to get turned on hits head after the 2026 midterms, especially if the GOP defies history and holds the House.
