Chelsea Clinton said to have designs on UK ambassador job in potential Harris administration

Hillary Clinton's burning presidential ambitions have never been a secret, and though she never managed to win the top job, that is not to say that she has given up on the idea of having a close familial connection in a new administration.

Sources close to the former first family have suggested that Bill and Hillary Clinton are doing all they can to help their daughter, Chelsea Clinton, jump to the head of the line to potentially become the U.S. ambassador to the U.K. should Kamala Harris win the White House, as the New York Post reports.

Greasing the wheels?

News of the former first daughter's new professional desires comes from a source said to have inside knowledge of family dealings, with the individual having declared, “Chelsea really wants to be the ambassador to the U.K.”

Chelsea Clinton is said to be so keen to nab the post that she may have been the driving force in her parents' rapid -- and enthusiastic -- endorsement of Harris' fledgling presidential campaign almost as soon as it was announced.

The source said, “There's a reason why Bill and Hillary came out in the first five minutes to support Kamala's presidential bid -- they were currying favor.”

According to the insider, Chelsea's prospective career change is something that has been under consideration for a good while, with the political power pair “working on this idea for a long time.”

While the U.K. may be Chelsea's preferred destination, the source acknowledged that an ambassadorship to France may also be palatable to the would-be diplomat.

Not so fast...

Despite her seemingly unbeatable Democratic Party connections and bona fides, Chelsea Clinton should not necessarily assume she would have such a job locked up.

A source with vast experience in the British embassy told the Post, “I can well imagine that the U.K. ambassadorship is an aspiration for Chelsea” but also noted that at age 44, “she is a bit junior still.”

The source explained that highly coveted jobs such as the one in London will usually go “to a massive donor or fundraiser” but admitted that “foreign countries love high-profile people as ambassadors because it brings them more attention.”

According to the diplomatic insider, “They would rather have someone more famous and less rich,” so perhaps Chelsea Clinton could argue that she does fit the mold, and given the fact that she holds two advanced degrees from Oxford University, she is not entirely lacking in connections to the U.K.

Even so, the Clintons have, through a spokesperson, attempted to quash any suggestion that there was any ulterior motive behind their endorsement of Harris, with a representative stating, “Among stupid things said by clueless people, that's pretty high up there.”
