CNN analyst stunned at how the country views GOP
The last few weeks have not been good for Donald Trump and his administration in terms of the economy.
Even so, overall, Americans are still hopeful for the GOP, which absolutely stunned CNN’s analysts.
Breaking Through to Gen Z
This was a big election for Republicans because the party drew in voters from different demographics where it usually struggles.
One of the biggest breakthroughs for Trump was in cracking Gen Z.
Democrats still won the demographic, but Trump took a major chunk out of their lead, largely in part to Trump doing podcasts and actually listening to these voters rather than telling them what they should be doing, which was the approach that Democrats took.
When you add Trump openly soliciting the group, and that many of GenZ voters are simply fed up with being lied to by Democrats, they are giving Trump a bit more leash during the early days of his presidency.
More Minority Voters
Trump also made inroads with minority voters, more specifically Latino voters and young black men.
I believe the reason the young black men voted for Trump was much the same reason as the GenZ voters… Trump listened while people like Obama lectured them on what they should be doing.
Latinos are another matter altogether, however, as the majority of them support the conservative immigration agenda.
These people came here legally, or their parents did, and they do not want to see other people take a short cut, yet Democrats keep pushing this narrative, driving away the very voters they are trying to lure in.
Shocking Numbers
Trump is taking some lumps on the economy in the latest polling, but the GOP itself is still doing shockingly well, according to CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten.
Enten stated, "This, to me, is one of the most shocking pieces of poll data that I truly, truthfully have seen this year, or maybe in any prior year.”
He added, "All of a sudden, the Democrats, who were the party of the people. No more! No more! We get a tie on this question, on a question that has traditionally overwhelmingly been a Democratic advantage… It‘s truly something I would not have expected to see, especially after this tariff war had begun."
I talked about this during the election, saying that I thought the GOP had cracked open a door, but they needed to deliver because they were only going to get one shot at this. I had cautioned Trump against overpromising, which he did, and that is why he is getting dinged now on the economy. Even so, if these voters continue to remain patient, I think the payoff could be huge, but ONLY if they are willing to ride out this tariff war. If not, 2026 and 2028 are going to be a nightmare for the GOP.
