Congressional Dems drill Mayor Adams during sanctuary city hearing
This week, four mayors of blue states considered sanctuary cities were called to testify before Congress.
One of them was New York City Mayor Adams, who had a bit of a shocking welcome at the committee.
Dropping Charges
You may or may not know, Adams is the subject of a massive corruption investigation by the DOJ. Adams, of course, claims the charges are all bogus and this was a politically motivated case by the Biden administration because he said he would work with Trump on immigration.
This, of course, got Trump’s attention and putting aside the mountain of evidence that Adams was taking foreign donations and abused a taxpayer program for matching campaign funds, Trump’s DOJ filed to have the charges against Adams dropped.
Now, I have been openly against this decision for two reasons. First, Adams is a meaningless cog in the machine, as the real fight is with the state. That has already been addressed by Bondi filing a suit against New York.
Second, giving Adams a pass gives the signal that as long as you are willing to work with or help Trump, there is no crime that can be committed that he would not excuse. After all, he just pardoned January 6 defendants who violently beat police officers, yet he claims to be a law and order president. Now he is letting off an alleged corrupt government official because he will try to help Trump with immigration. Where is the line?
Adams Greeting in Congress
Because of Adams new bond with Trump, House GOP members warmly greeted Adams when he showed up for the hearing, or at least most of them did. It was the Dems that really went after him.
For example, Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA) asked Adams, “Are you selling out New Yorkers to save yourself from prosecution?” Adams insisted there is no deal, and no quid pro quo, but I don’t believe that for a second.
On the other hand, when Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) introduced Adams, he called him “outstanding.” Exactly what is outstanding about a mayor who has a city where it is not safe to ride public transportation and who allegedly accepted tens of thousands of dollars from a foreign government for his campaign? Again, where do we draw the line? Does everyone forget what he was saying about Governor Abbott and Republicans at the beginning of the migrant crisis in New York? I sure don't.
One Republican even pushed the narrative that Adams was only being prosecuted for calling out Biden. Rep. William Timmons (R-S.C.) stated, “The only one of you who stood up to the previous administration was under investigation shortly thereafter. Weird how that happens.”
True Colors
On Tuesday night, Adams penned an op-ed in the New York Post touting being a sanctuary for illegal immigrants, showing his true colors, just as I suspected.
At one point, Adams wrote, “Second, we must recognize that law-abiding immigrants in New York have played an important role in our society. Immigrant New Yorkers, including those who are undocumented, pay billions of dollars in taxes and contribute billions more in spending power to our economy. Immigrants also play a vital role in the functioning of the city; this was on full display during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Let me be clear, if you are not documented, then you are not a law-abiding immigrant. By its very definition, you have broken the law to enter this country, and should be punished accordingly to the letter of the law.
Eventually, Trump’s deportation program wants to extend to all illegals, so what happens then? Maybe Adams cooperates regarding “criminal” illegals, but what happens when it expands beyond that? Most people won’t admit it, but he played Trump. And even if he didn’t, do we really accept political corruption, the abuse of the public’s trust, simply because he is sucking up to Trump? I don’t know about you, but I don’t. Corrupt politicians are the scum of the earth, and we need to rid them from the system, not embrace them and bury their crimes under the rug.
