Country music standout Tommy Cash, brother of Johnny Cash, dies at age 84
The world of entertainment is mourning a member of a legendary musical family who passed away on Friday.
As Variety reports, country musician Tommy Cash, who was also well known as the brother of industry icon Johnny Cash, died at the age of 84.
Beloved country star gone
Tommy Cash enjoyed a long and fruitful career on the stage, performing in venues around the globe, continuing to do so even after his arguably more famous brother, Johnny Cash, passed away in 2003.
Born in Arkansas in 1940, Tommy Cash joined the military after finishing high school, going on to work as an Armed Forces Radio disc jockey and later to play with Hank Williams, Jr.
He ultimately landed a record deal in 1965 and later released memorable tunes such as "Six White Horses,” “Rise and Shine,” and “One Song Away.”
Tommy Cash gained success by notching multiple top 10 hits on the Hot Country Songs chart in 1970, solidifying his reputation in the recording world.
Notably, Tommy and Johnny Cash joined forces in 1990 on “Guess Things Happen That Way,” delighting fans of both performers.
Tributes pour in
Tommy Cash's passing was announced to the public by Bill Miller, CEO of Icon Entertainment and founder of Nashville's Johnny Cash Museum, as Billboard noted.
Miller went on to say, “Tommy Cash was a loyal supporter of the Johnny Cash Museum and a very beloved member of our extended famkily as well as a highly respected member of the music industry.”
“This great man will be deeply missed by his friends and many loyal fans around the world. Please keep Tommy's beloved wife, Marcy and his family in your prayers,” Miller continued in his heartfelt tribute to the late performer.
On a strictly personal level, Miller said that he and his wife “lost a very, very dear friend,” revealing that he had known Tommy Cash for more than half a century.
Departing the world close on the heels of the 21st anniversary of his legendary brother's death, Johnny Cash leaves behind a legacy of music and familial dedication that will be remembered for decades to come.
