Democrat Congresswoman Calls Out Forever Politicians Like Pelosi

Rep. Annie Kuster (D-N.H.) is putting pressure on her fellow Democrats, and all congressional members for that matter, to get out of office at a reasonable age.

Kuster is stepping down at the age of 68, turning over her seat to the next generation, and she is encouraging her fellow members of Congress to do the same.

Getting Old

I did a report a few weeks ago about the average age of members of Congress.

Shockingly, nearly half of Congress is over retirement age, and there are dozens over the age of 70, with a handful of octogenarians still running for office.

For example, Nancy Pelosi is 84 years old, and rumors are that she has already filed her paperwork to run again in 2026.

Being a member of Congress is a demanding job, calling for four days in DC, three days in their district, not to mention campaigning virtually the entire time for the next cycle, so how can someone in their 70s or 80s keep that kind of schedule?

Missing Members

I can then point to someone in my state, in a neighboring district, actually, who just disappeared halfway through the year.

Rep. Kay Granger (R-TX), 81, has not voted for legislation since July, and she has only been seen at the Capitol once.

Reports later surfaced that she had been moved into an assisted living facility and was suffering from early signs of dementia. Apparently, the idea of dialing things back in July was pre-planned, but that means she purposely failed to give her constituents representation in Congress for six months.

We can all empathize with her condition, but the fact she flat-out disappeared for six months is inexcusable in her position because she should have retired in July and allowed the governor to replace her and hold a special election to complete her term.

Time to Go

Kuster, 68, is retiring at a proper age, and she is encouraging the fossils in the office to do the same.

She stated, “I’m trying to set a better example. I think there are colleagues — and some of whom are still very successful and very productive — but others who just stay forever.”

Pelosi clearly did not get the message, backing Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA), 74, over AOC to be the ranking member of the House Oversight Committee, even though Connolly also has some health issues, which is understandable at his age.

I say it again… if we are not going to have mandatory retirement, the very least Congress can do is require cognizant testing from the age of 70 on, every year, or every six months even, to ensure these people can perform their duties. Right now, we have several members who seem off, as well as the man in the White House, yet this problem just continues to get ignored.
