Democrat leaders struggling to form post-election message for voters
The message that voters sent to the Democrat Party in the 2024 election seemed pretty clear to me.
Yet, Democrats still don’t get it, with many Democrats tripling down on the same message while others seem clueless as to what direction they need to take.
Election Issues
Democrats tried to key on a few issues: bad orange man, Joe Biden’s great economy, bad orange man, pushing expensive green energy plans, bad orange man, and DEI.
Polling showed that America overall was worried about inflation, immigration, crime, and the rising costs of energy. Americans were also clearly tired of having woke policies forced down their throats.
Trump did not hide what he was going to do. He gave his game plan, and he has followed through, even though many of his executive orders will be or are being challenged.
Yet, with all that information, Democrats still don’t have a message.
Stumped
The New York Times did a deep dive on Democrat leadership, claiming that it now appears to be “appear leaderless, rudderless, and divided.”
The report added, "Democrats broadly agree that they need to do more to address the issues that powered Mr. Trump’s campaign, like grocery costs, inflation and immigration. But there is little consensus on how — or even whether — to prioritize the party’s traditional concerns like abortion rights, L.G.B.T.Q. equality and climate change.
“Some Democrats fear that even as those issues continued to animate the party’s base, they failed to resonate among a broader swath of voters in the last presidential election.”
Yet, they just elected a vice chair to the DNC whose main issue is gun control, something that was not even on the radar of this election.
What Dems Are Saying
I have honestly never seen Democrats as a group this clueless. Dems are usually a pretty focused group, but since Pelosi left leadership, current Minority Leader Jeffries (D-N.Y.) has yet to put his stamp on the caucus.
To that point, Rep. Jasmine Crocket (D-TX) stated, “We have no coherent message. This guy is psychotic, and there’s so much, but everything that underlines it is white supremacy and hate. There needs to be a message that is clear on at least the underlying thing that comes with all of this.”
So my point about Dems being clueless, Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) stated, “Instead, what they see is chaos going up, corruption going up with the firing of the inspector generals, and guess what else is going up? Egg prices.”
Egg prices? Trump has been in office for two weeks, and Klobuchar did not call out Biden on the rising costs of groceries his entire tenure! This is what Democrats have right now. The problem for them is that the GOP embraced the concerns of younger voters while also dialing into the concerns of older voters, and for Dems to win these people back, they would have to regurgitate some GOP talking points, and well know that will never happen. They would rather go down in a burning ship than grab the fire extinguisher and put it out. As long as they stay stubborn, the chances of holding the House and Senate in 2026 continue to go up.
