Democrat Party starting to distance itself from Governor Newsom

I believe Gavin Newsom is positioning himself for a presidential run in 2028.

However, in the process of doing that, he may have just alienated himself from the Democratic Party.

Trans stand changes

One of the hills that Democrats have chosen to die on is allowing transgenders to compete in women’s sports. Dems are doing this even though the clear opinion among the overwhelming majority of Americans is that they do not want to see this.

Newsom broke from the party recently while speaking with conservative mouthpiece Charlie Kirk.

Newsom stated, “I think it’s an issue of fairness, I completely agree with you on that. It is an issue of fairness — it’s deeply unfair."

“I am not wrestling with the fairness issue. I totally agree with you.”

Toxic party

Newsom then came out to call Democrats “toxic,” which had everyone fired up.

Newsom stated, "These guys are crushing us. The Democratic brand is toxic right now."

"We had a high watermark two weeks ago, and that was a CNN poll, at 29 percent favorability. It's dropped in an NBC poll to 27 percent. It's one thing to make noise, but you also have to make sense."

He was doing this to make himself more appealing to moderates, but he is now losing the support of his fellow Democrats.

Really problematic

Senator Michael Bennett (D-CO) is now striking back regarding the comments made by Newsom, stating, “I do agree that the Democratic Party brand is really problematic."

“I think that it is a brand that is, with all respect to my colleague from California, is associated with New York and with California, is associated with the educated elites in this country and and not anymore with working people in this country.”

He later added, “But the Democratic Party ought to be able to come back under those circumstances with a pretty good argument about why we could lead better than Donald Trump and why we are able to provide a better set of economic policies, a much better set of healthcare policies that ensures universal health care finally for everybody in this country.”

Newsom may be luring in some moderate voters with this schtick, but it won’t be enough to offset the Democrats he is losing, which is being proven in polling, as Newsom is well behind Harris in early 2028 primary polling. But keep it up, Gavin, because we love it when Democrats run their careers all on their own.
