Democrats Considering Use of Loopholes to Revolt Against Biden at DNC

Conversations are reportedly happening among Democratic National Convention delegates about how to get around President Joe Biden's candidacy in light of his potential refusal to step aside.

The DNC is scheduled for August, and delegates are discussing the use of a “good-conscience loophole” that lets them vote for a new candidate of their choosing as more within the party are quitting on Biden.

Ever since Biden's disastrous presidential debate, a growing faction of Democrats is calling on Biden to step aside.

This group ranges from powerful Democrat senators to members of Congress, but so far, the White House isn't bending the knee. Even after Biden was diagnosed with COVID-19 this past week, he has remained defiant and insistent that he will not depart the race.

Many Democrats are convinced that if they can't get Biden to leave on his own accord, November's election is as good as lost.

Revolt At The DNC

Like the GOP, the Democrat Party's delegates are supposed to cast their votes as determined by state primaries and caucuses which Biden has already won thanks to the Democrat Party's prior decision to shun an open primary process.

The DNC didn't want to entertain challengers to Biden during the primary season, and now delegates are openly discussing breaking their pledge to state delegates.

DNC delegate Elaine Kamarck informed delegates of their options during a Zoom call on Friday morning in which she stated that "there’s no such thing as Joe Biden releasing his delegates. And Joe Biden gets this. I don’t know why the rest of the press doesn’t get it."

The DNC's rule explicitly states, "Delegates elected to the national convention pledged to a presidential candidate shall in all good conscience reflect the sentiments of those who elected them."

This means that Kamarck and the other 50 delegates that were in that Zoom call can argue that they are acting in "good conscience" when they don't give their votes to Joe Biden on the grounds that he can't possibly win the election in November.

Of course, if this happens, it could have a devastating effect on the Democrat Party that will create chaos and dysfunction which would further damage Democrats nationally as Republicans surge.

Open Convention

There are talks of holding an open convention among DNC operatives, but the real issue for Democrats is they have no solid options with which to replace Biden.

Vice President Kamala Harris is presumably the first in line to replace Biden, but she is arguably worse than the current president. Other possibilities include Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and California Gov. Gavin Newsom but there are real questions there as well.

At this point, if Biden doesn't drop out, delegates not voting for Biden would do so merely as an act of protest. But this illustrates just how desperate Democrats have become in the face of Trump's resurgence and Biden's decline.

A senior congressional Democratic source eloquently explained the situation to the New York Post by saying, "We are so f–ked."
