Democrats storm Johnson’s office over to have new member sworn in
Democrats just love publicity stunts, and boy, did they just pull off a doozy.
A slew of Democrats accompanied Rep.-elect Adelita Grijalva (D-AZ) to Speaker Mike Johnson’s (R-LA) office, demanding she be sworn in.
This was nothing more than a publicity stunt.
Winning the Election
After her father passed, Grijalva wanted to follow in his footsteps to keep the seat in the family.
She won her election easily, by more than 40 points, but the problem for her was the timing of the election.
When she won, the House was closed for the Rosh Hashanah holiday. It remained closed for the final few days of the session due to the pending government shutdown.
This prevented her from being sworn in after the election, and she has not been sworn in yet because the House has not formally been called back into session due to the shutdown.
All About Epstein
Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) now has 217 signatures on his Epstein discharge petition, and Grijalva will be the 218th once she is sworn in, which is why Democrats say Johnson is delaying it.
Along with Massie, Reps. Lauren Boebert (R-CO), Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), and Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) have all signed on, so her signature will force the petition to the floor for a vote.
First, the White House will never sign off on this, and even if it passes the House, it would still have to pass the Senate.
Since Democrats have only 47 seats, and 60 votes are required to pass a bill, does anyone really think more than a dozen Republican senators are going to cross Trump to back that piece of legislation? So, yes, this is nothing more than a ridiculous stunt.
Storming the Office
Dems got what they wanted, however, and that was a headline and a story on the 6:00 news.
After the incident, Johnson explained what happened, stating, "They stormed my office. Maybe you saw some of the video online that they themselves shared or someone did, they berated a Capitol Police officer, screamed at him. He was just merely standing at his post.”
He added, "It shows again their disdain for law enforcement, as we see all around the country, the Democrats and everyone in that party screaming, assaulting ICE officers. They did it right here in the Capitol last night. A few members of Congress went into the little foyer of my office and tore down a sign that I had up and, and just engaged in all sorts of political stunts and antics.”
He's right, as I stated above. But unfortunately, this is what has become of Congress these days. It is nothing more than political theater and trying to manipulate the American people. It has become a complete and utter joke.
