Dems appear ready to push Schumer out of Senate after spending bill collapse

Last week, Senator Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) started off the week talking tough, then eventually caved, passing the short-term spending bill with the GOP.

This led to significant pushback from members, to the point that AOC is now being encouraged to run against Schumer in the primary race for his seat.

Senate Passes Bill

On Friday, the spending bill passed the Senate with a vote of 54-46. Schumer had earlier rallied a handful of Democrats to vote with the GOP to break the filibuster during a procedural vote.

Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) called out Democrats for being hypocrites in regard to shutting down the government, stating, "It wasn't that long ago before we were lecturing that you can never shut the government down. So, that's kind of inconsistent.”

Schumer tried to save face, saying that the caucus was united, but that was clearly not the case.

I saw numerous reports of Democrats reportedly screaming at each other over the filibuster vote as well as this legislation being forwarded to Trump for his signature.

Jeffries Ignores Question

After the legislation passed, the media stuck a microphone in the face of House Minority Leader Jeffries (D-N.Y.), who had his caucus united to try to block the bill in the House.

When Jeffries was asked if it was time for new leadership in the Senate, he refused to answer the question, stating, "Next question."

A Fox News reporter later challenged Jeffries on this front again, asking him if he was “afraid” to comment, to which Jeffries snapped, "Do not characterize my remarks. I'm not afraid about anything.”

He was pressed yet again by another reporter, and he finally gave a more lengthy answer, stating, "Do you think that this is what the American people care about right now? Or do they want us to do everything that we can to stop this partisan and harmful Republican bill from actually becoming law? Because that's what we as House Democrats are focused on right now."

AOC Being Pushed to Challenge AOC

Rep. Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), for some reason, keeps getting re-elected to office, and she can probably stay in that seat until she drops dead the way Democrats vote these days.

Now, however, there are some Democrats pushing her to challenge Schumer, which means she would have to give up her seat (you cannot run for two positions at the same time). This would be a big step for AOC, and I doubt there is any way she would ever run unless she was convinced she could beat Schumer.

AOC was asked about the rumors, but instead of answering the question, she chose to take a shot at Democrat Senators, stating, “I think what we need right now is a united Senate Democratic Caucus that can stand up for this country and not vote for cloture and not vote for this bill.”

My readers know I cannot stand Schumer, but am no fan of AOC, either, and it think she would be even more of a problem than Schumer in the Senate. And regardless of how elected officials feel about Schumer, he won his last election by more than 13 points, so this will not be an easy out for AOC, and I doubt she is would be willing to lose her spot in the House for what has to be a 50-50 race at best for her if she goes up against Schumer.
