Dems calling for Hegseth resignation over #SignalGate
This #SignalGate mess just keeps getting more and more complicated for the Trump administration.
Now, Democrats are calling for the immediate resignation of Hegseth as well as a lawsuit being filed to see if Hegseth broke any laws.
The Lawsuit
American Oversight has filed suit on the premise that Hegseth and other Trump officials may have violated the Federal Records Act in that text group.
Now, reports have already surfaced that the Biden administration approved Signal for communications, but I would still question if conversations of this nature were meant to be on a public app.
And to be clear, Hegseth could have done this being far more vague, but he listed attack times, strike packages, and equipment. He also mentioned the Houthis as part of the conversation, so any intelligence officer would have been able to figure out what was going on fairly quickly.
Autodelete is an option on Signal, as it is on other messaging apps, so if those records were deleted, this could be a real problem for the administration.
Senator Duckworth calls for Hegseth Resignation
Democrats smell blood in the water and they are not backing down from this one.
Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) fired from the hip, using the new favorite of Democrats to use vulgarities in official statements.
She wrote, “Pete Hegseth is a f*cking liar. This is so clearly classified info he recklessly leaked that could’ve gotten our pilots killed. He needs to resign in disgrace immediately.
“If Republicans won’t join us in holding the Trump Administration accountable, then they are complicit in this dangerous and likely criminal breach of our national security.”
Not Happening
For now, Donald Trump is not willing to fire anyone over this, and I think that is a mistake. Trump expressed his support for Mike Waltz, his National Security Adviser, crediting him with taking blame, stating, “Mike Waltz … he claimed responsibility, I would imagine. It had nothing to do with anyone else. It was Mike, I guess, I don’t know, I was told it was Mike.”
When Trump was asked about firing Hegseth, he responded, “Hegseth is doing a great job, he had nothing to do with this. Hegseth. How do you bring Hegseth into this?”
Hegseth is being brought into this because he was the one providing the information, far too much for my liking on a public app.
Now, I am not saying that Trump should fire Waltz or Hegseth, although I would not mind seeing Hegseth go, but someone has to be fired. Whoever added that journalist, be it a mistake on purpose, must be held accountable regardless of who they are. They simply cannot be trusted, in my opinion. And if it was Waltz and not an aide, then yes, Waltz needs to go.
