Dems try to defend storming ICE facility
Last week, we all watched in horror as New Jersey Democrats carried out a publicity stunt at a new ICE facility in Newark.
The incident led to the arrest of the mayor and may result in charges for several other Democrats. Those present, however, say this was all instigated by ICE.
Storming ICE
Footage was released last week of Newark Mayor Ras Baraka and Reps. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-NJ), Rob Menendez (D-NJ), and LaMonica McIver (D-NJ) rushing the gate at the ICE facility.
DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin announced, "These members of Congress storming into a detention facility goes beyond bizarre political stunt and puts the safety of our law enforcement agents and the detainees at risk.”
She added, "Members of Congress are not above the law and cannot illegally break into detention facilities. Had these members requested a tour, we would have facilitated a tour of the facility. This is an evolving situation."
When Dems insisted they were only there for oversight, McLaughlin responded, "We have valid permits and inspection from plumbing, electricity to fire codes has been cleared."
Dems could be arrested
Mayor Baraka was arrested after ignoring several warnings. Authorities took him into custody for trespassing, and he was eventually released, being treated like a martyr by the media.
The arrests may not be over, however, as McLaughlin later announced, “I think that we should let viewers know there will likely be more coming."
“We actually have body camera footage of some of these members of Congress assaulting our ICE enforcement officers, including body-slamming a female ICE officer.”
Democrats denied any body-slamming took place, then stated that if DHS does produce footage, it would be fake.
Lying at all levels
Reps. LaMonica McIver, Bonnie Watson Coleman, and Rob Menendez went on the offense after the administration announced more arrests could be forthcoming, with Coleman stating, "Chaos ensued when someone on the phone above the leaders of ICE who were with us at that facility instructed them to go out of the facility, go to the private property and lock the mayor of the largest city in the state of New Jersey up.”
Coleman added, "That's absurd. That's un-American. That's scary. That's determination to intimidate people in this country," continuing that the Trump administration is “lying at all levels.”
LaMonica was on CNN later, saying she has no idea how to body slam someone, adding, "There were a lot of opportunities for DHS, for ICE to de-escalate the situation. They chose not to... It's something that should really shock all Americans."
Responding to DHS accusing her of "body slamming" an ICE officer, @RepLaMonica tells @DanaBashCNN, "I honestly do not know how to body slam anyone. There's no video that supports me body slamming anyone."@RepMenendez says, "There were a lot of opportunities for DHS, for ICE to… pic.twitter.com/Fhfpq06jHq

Now, I want you to think about that because she is wordsmithing her way around the fact that members of Congress were actually escalating things, and they did it on purpose. Now, if you watched that video, tell me if you think members of Congress were acting orderly? Furthermore, how do you think that would have played out if it were Republicans inspecting a holding facility and acting that way if a Democrat were in office? I think we all know the word that Dems would have used… insurrection.
