DeSantis fires attack at GOP for not codifying DOGE cuts
For all intents and purposes, DOGE has been a complete and utter bust, possibly costing the American people money rather than saving them money.
Speaker Johnson (R-LA) and the GOP had the opportunity to codify the cuts recommended by DOGE in the big, beautiful bill, but they failed to do so, and now Johnson is taking heat from all angles.
DeSantis calls out GOP
DeSantis vowed that if he became president, the free-for-all spending in DC would come to an end, and when you look at what he did with Florida, it is hard to doubt the man.
After the text of the spending bill was publicized, DeSantis went nuclear, stating, “Elon Musk took massive incoming — including attacks on his companies as well as personal smears — to lead the effort on DOGE. He became public enemy #1 of legacy media around the world."
“To see Republicans in Congress cast aside any meaningful spending reductions (and, in fact, fully fund things like USAID) is demoralizing and represents a betrayal of the voters who elected them.”
I still say we missed a huge opportunity to have a two-term Republican president by not electing DeSantis. What is even more bothersome is that it now looks like his political career is likely over in terms of running for president. I honestly believe that had we elected DeSantis, the GOP would have likely held the White House for the next four terms. The only way I see him getting grip back now is for him to go back to Congress and wait until the 2032 election.
Musk Also Upset
Musk has also announced that he is upset with the bill, stating, “I was disappointed to see the massive spending bill, frankly, which increases the budget deficit, not just decreases it, and undermines the work that the DOGE team is doing.”
Trump tomorrow: “I never liked Elon. What kind of name is that anyway, Elon? He’s a loser, I fired him like a dog, like Kristi Noem’s dog, sweet cricket. I love dogs you know, but not Elon, He’s scum” pic.twitter.com/KPrQ5Xr3Pz

Musk also stated that he would be dialing back his political activity, including donations to candidates, in the future.
He likely feels like he was used as a prop, and he was, at least in my opinion.
The only upside of this is that Trump has not yet started to attack Musk for his comments, but that will likely start if Musk continues to push back against the big, beautiful bill that Trump is supporting. And when Musk takes off the gloves, it is going to get very ugly.
Johnson scrambling
The comments by DeSantis and Musk have really pushed Johnson’s back up against the wall, as he now has to justify why all these DOGE cuts were not put into legislation that will be rammed through via reconciliation.
He is now doing damage control, posting to X, “The House is eager and ready to act on DOGE’s findings so we can deliver even more cuts to big government that President Trump wants and the American people demand.
“We will do that in two ways: 1. When the White House sends its rescissions package to the House, we will act quickly by passing legislation to codify the cuts. 2. The House will use the appropriations process to swiftly implement President Trump’s 2026 budget.”
This is all complete and utter nonsense, at least in my opinion. If those cuts are in that bill, which they are currently not, they have little to no chance of ever becoming law. A rescissions package does not need 60 votes to pass in the Senate, so it cannot be filibustered, but I question if they GOP has the votes since we know a handful of Senators have pushed back on some of the cuts DOGE wanted to make. This could pass, but I just don't see it happening unless people like Senators Murkowski (R-AK) and Collins (R-ME) suddenly have a change of heart. And to honest, based on past comments, the bill may not even get through the House. I would love to be wrong and will gladly eat a plate of crow, so let's see how all this plays out.
