DeSantis makes a splash by rescuing Americans in Israel
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis was, at one point, the favorite to win the 2024 nod, but that was until Trump decided to run again and utterly destroyed DeSantis.
Slowly but surely, DeSantis has been fixing his profile, and he just made another big move that will help him climb a few more rungs on the ladder.
DeSantis is Out
After supporting Trump in the 2016 and 2020 elections, I never hid my opinion that I thought it was time to move on and give someone else a shot, and for me, that person was DeSantis.
My reasoning was two-fold. I wanted to get away from the toxicity we have seen over the last eight years. And I also wanted someone younger, who could also run for two terms instead of one, rather than having to go to the mattresses again in 2028. DeSantis fit that bill, as well as being in line with the majority of my agenda issues, so he was my guy.
Once DeSantis was identified as public enemy number one by the Trump camp, they used every trick in the book to get him out, and DeSantis was out of the race before New Hampshire primary, stating, "It's clear to me that a majority of Republican primary voters want to give Donald Trump another chance.”
While he had every reason to go against Trump at that point, considering the classless attacks against him and his wife, Casey, DeSantis stated that he would stick by his pledge to support the eventual nominee, and he did just that, throwing his support behind Trump once the primary race was over.
Calling Out Congress
DeSantis has time and again called out the Republican Party when he thinks it needs a good kick in the rump, and he did it again recently after the resistance in Congress regarding Trump’s agenda.
In March, DeSantis called them out for not really having accomplished anything since the term started, literally asking, "What have they done?"
DeSantis and I see eye-to-eye on this, as his words echoed the very words I write on these pages, stating, “So much of the modern Congress is just performative. It's just political theater. It's not substantive. They're not engaged in the business of accomplishment.
“It's all about putting on a show to get returned to office and stay there as long as possible. It's one of the reasons why I think we need term limits for members of Congress.”
Bring Them Home
DeSantis has never feared stepping up to do the right thing when needed, which has included helping Texas ship out illegals and now bringing Americans home who needed to be evacuated from Israel during this war with Iran.
DeSantis explained, “This is not something that is easy to do. There are logistical challenges. It was not an easy voyage for these folks. They had to get on a cruise ship, then wait in Cyprus, and go through everything in between.”
He added, “There are going to be more folks that are rescued. I know some other states may want to get involved at this point. The reality is that there is still a need for more.”
So far, more than 1,500 have been returned to the United States with Florida’s help, and there are likely more to come. And yes, I know a lot of people reading this are no longer fans of DeSantis, but I beg of you, keep your options open if the Trump camp fails to secure a win in 2028, because we have a true ace up our sleeve for 2032 in DeSantis.
