Dick Van Dyke Cancels Public Appearance

Actor-comedian-singer-dancer Dick Van Dyke has found himself in the news quite a bit lately.

The legendary star has made some rather obscure videos that were posted on his social media accounts as well as being honored at entertainment award shows.

Concerns rose over the 98-year-old's health, however, after an appearance outside of Los Angeles was canceled.

Is He Okay?

Van Dyke has been out in public, but he has not left Los Angeles itself very much.

He was, however, scheduled to make an appearance in a FanX event in Salt Lake City September 26-29, but that appearance has been canceled.

The announcement stated, “He expresses his gratitude to all of those who continue to support him but, at almost 99 years of age, traveling and interacting with thousands of people is more than he is able to do at this time.”

Van Dyke turns 99 in December.

The entertainer has been around forever, with his first acting credit in 1956.

In 1961, he was given his own show called “The Dick Van Dyke Show,” which turned him into a household name.

During that show's run, he landed the role of Bert in Mary Poppins, and his star took off.

In 1971, his show was relaunched as “The New Dick Van Dyke Show,” remaining on air for another three years.

I will always associate him as Caractacus Potts in “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” and for his show, which was on TV in my house just about every week, then every day during the reruns.

Van Dyke was old school, using Vaudeville-style humor to get laughs, but that was hardly his only talent.

He was a phenomenal dancer and a very good singer, which kept him employed in the industry for seven decades.

While not acting much, he still does voiceovers, with the two most recent projects being “The Simpsons” and “Kidding.”

You are a special one, sir, so please feel better because we are not done with you just yet.
