Dick Van Dyke Says the One Thing He Wants to be Remembered For

Dick Van Dyke, 98, knows his final days are coming soon.

The man has been entertaining people for the better part of seven decades.

As this time is coming to an end, however, he stated there is one thing for which he would love to be remembered.

An Entertainment Legend

Van Dyke made his acting debut in 1957 on “The Phil Silvers Show.”

He was a vaudeville-style comedian, singer, dancer, and actor, which is why he landed big roles in “Bye Bye Birdie” and “Mary Poppins.”

He also had his own show, “The Dick Van Dyke Show” that I can remember watching reruns as a kid. This was a show that also launched the career of Mary Tyler Moore.

The success continued for Van Dyke, who also starred in “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” and the relaunch of his eponymous show.

Van Dyke has stayed busy on the big screen, the small screen, as well as stage, cementing himself as one of the true talents of our time.

But what is the one thing that he hopes everyone remembers him for? It’s pretty simple, really, and I think he will be.

When asked that question, Van Dyke responded, "For laughter.

"I hope for making people laugh for 75 years."

Van Dyke recently won the Creative Arts Emmy along with comedian Normal Lear, tying him for being the oldest recipient of the award.

Holding the hardware, he stated, "I've been in the business 75 years. I can't believe that I'm still here and performing."

For those comedians who are struggling, he offered up some advice, stating, "You have to stick with it.

"You're gonna go through hard times and a lot of auditions ... but you have to stay with it. Be patient if you've got the confidence in yourself, and it's very important to believe that you can do it."

I loved his goofy humor as a kid, and his movies have raised generations.

Like Van Dyke, I cannot believe he is still out there doing his thing when Joe Biden, someone nearly two decades his junior, cannot put two words together or walk up a flight of steps.
