Disney rolls back DEI initiatives, cancels its controversial 'Reimagine Tomorrow' campaign

Over the past month, since the reelection of President Donald Trump, corporations around the country have began a widescale rollback of their silly DEI programs.

According to Fox Business, even super-woke Disney appears to be dialing back its DEI initiatives, as it was reported this week that the entertainment company dropped its "Reimagine Tomorrow" program. 

Disney was one of the first major companies to put their DEI programs and wokeness on full display, sparking legal battles and a seemingly neverending supply of bad press.

The company ended up going toe-to-toe with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on several issues.

What happened?

In an email first obtained by Axios, it was revealed that the company has decided to end the program, which was nothing less than a total headache for Disney after the program was exposed by a conservative activist.

Fox Business noted:

The "Reimagine Tomorrow" program was thrust into controversy after a 2022 meeting it hosted where an executive boasted of her "not-at-all-secret gay agenda" was unearthed by conservative activist Chris Rufo.

According to its now-defunct website, the program was set on "amplifying underrepresented voices and untold stories as well as championing the importance of accurate representation in media and entertainment."

"On my little pocket of Proud Family Disney TVA, the showrunners were super welcoming… our leadership over there has been super welcoming to my not-at-all-secret gay agenda… they’re going hard… I don’t have to be afraid to have these two characters kiss in the background. I was just, wherever I could, adding queerness," executive producer Latoya Raveneau said at the time, sparking backlash.

Fox Business added:

Disney dropped "Reimagine Tomorrow" from its 2024 SEC filing, but today’s announcement goes further by confirming that the program has been terminated, and its website has been shut down.

Social media reaction

Users across social media weighed in on the news of Disney dropping the program, with some expressing skepticism that companies like Disney are simply riding the prevailing winds at any given time.

"As much as I would like to think this is progress, all is really tells me is how these companies just swing with the times," one X user wrote.

Another X user wrote, "It's too late, @Disney. You ruined your brand and people will rightfully not come back."

The company obviously is painfully aware of the damage it self-inflicted with its woke phase, and it's likely too much for many to consider patronizing it ever again.
