DOJ Report Reveals FBI Had 26 Informants Present at January 6 Riot
Republicans have been trying to get to the bottom of the FBI's involvement in the January 6 riot since it happened.
A new report by the Department of Justice’s Inspector General’s office just provided some detail, and it is not good for the FBI.
The Wray Denial
Just about every time FBI Director Wray has been on the Hill, he has faced questions about the riot that took place during the election certification.
During a hearing in July, Wray got a bit heated, responding, “If you’re asking if the violence at the Capitol was part of some operation orchestrated by FBI sources or agents, the answer is no!”
I would say that we can probably agree that the riot itself was not orchestrated by the FBI, but the agency does not get a free pass here.
As it turns out, the FBI did have active assets on the ground, with significantly more assets that decided to attend the event on their own.
What They Did
According to the report, the FBI had at least 26 confidential informants on the ground that day.
The report noted, however, that of those 26, only three were acting in their official capacity as assets for the FBI. The remainder came to the event on their own, which brings to light my first question.
If the FBI was worried about the rally turning ugly, as intelligence clearly predicted, then why were these assets not ordered to stay away?
Of the people accounted for in the report, four of them entered the Capitol during the riot, there were 13 who had entered into restricted spaces, and they identified nine who did not break any laws at all.
The Report
When the report was released, it covered the assets that were activated by the FBI for the protest, allegedly to monitor the activity of potential domestic terrorists.
The report stated, “Our review concluded that none of these three FBI [informants] were authorized to enter the Capitol or a restricted area, or to otherwise break the law on January 6, nor was any [informant] directed by the FBI to encourage others to commit illegal acts on January 6.”
Vice President-elect JD Vance then posted, “For those keeping score at home, this was labeled a dangerous conspiracy theory months ago.”
Something tells me that we are still not getting the full truth here because I simply do not trust a single aspect of the DOJ with Merrick Garland running the show. I will take a flyer and say that once Kash Patel and Pam Bondi get into office, a more thorough report on this will be released.
