Eric Trump: Father saw Charlie Kirk as another son

As we all know, Charlie Kirk was a cherished figure on the right.

He took on the topics that nobody wanted to talk about, but more importantly, he was getting the youth of today involved in politics and making them realize that being a conservative was not a bad thing.

We all knew he meant a lot to the Trump family, but it was apparently more than we thought.

Trump remembers Kirk

During a recent interview regarding the Kirk assassination, Trump fondly remembered the young man.

He stated, “Don said to me, ‘He’s sort of like a son to you…’ He started this really during what would normally be college… and it’s become a movement… I’ve never seen young people, or any group, go to one person like they did to Charlie.”

On the moment he was told of Charlie’s death, Trump stated, “They said, ‘Charlie Kirk is dead.’ I didn’t know what they meant. I said, ‘What do you mean, dead?’ ‘Charlie Kirk was shot…’ I just told these people, ‘Get out. Just go.’”

When asked if he thought this would get conservatives to back down, he responded, “You have to go forward. You just have to go forward. You watch as closely as you can.”

Impacting Barron

If Kirk was that close to Donald Trump, you better believe he was tight with Barron as well.

Remember, Barron was the one who forced his father down this road to talk to younger podcasters to lure in the young vote.

When Barron came to him about meeting Kirk, the president explained, “And Barron came to me and he said, ‘Dad, I'd like to meet somebody that you know, Charlie Kirk… I thought he was going to say, ‘I want to meet, like, King Charles or something.”

He later added, “I'll never forget Baron coming back saying, ‘Dad, that guy's great.’ You know, normally he's not full of praise. Now, he was very hurt when he saw [news of Kirk’s death], but, I mean, everybody was.”

Like a son

Kirk and Trump met more than a decade ago after Kirk founded Turning Point USA, driving young voters out to support conservative candidates.

Trump said that the movement Kirk envisioned a decade ago had become a reality, as Charlie relentlessly pushed forward to achieve his goals.

Eric Trump explained the relationship, stating, “He became … probably a second son to my father. He fought beside us. I was on that stage with him a hundred times. I mean, he was an amazing person.”

I was always kind of neutral on Kirk, not a fan but not someone who disliked him. I did not always like the way he presented things, and I would call him out on X as I do with everyone else, but I respected him for his conviction, and I admired the fact that he had the guts to talk about things nobody else wanted to, and did so fearlessly. He is exactly who the First Amendment was meant to protect, but society failed him because far too many people these days allow uncomfortable to turn to anger, which turns to hate, which often turns to negative actions. Rest in peace, Charlie, for you surely will be missed.
