Erika Kirk finds it in her heart to forgive alleged assassin
We have all been wronged by people, and I still hold a grudge against someone who stole my lunch bag in grade school as a prank.
So, can you imagine the level of faith it takes to be able to forgive someone who only days earlier, allegedly killed your husband in front of America?
Well, that is what Erika Kirk just did.
He saved people
This entire assassination has more narratives that I can possibly write about, but I will try.
The first one was how the bullet that took Charlie’s life did not kill anyone else.
As it turns out, Turning Point USA representative Andrew Kolvet says that the surgeon who worked on Kirk claimed that his bone mass was so dense, the shot never left his body, which, at the very least, stopped others from being hurt or possibly even killed by the shot.
He explained, “I just spoke with the surgeon who worked on Charlie in the hospital … He said the bullet ‘absolutely should have gone through, which is very very normal for a high-powered, high-velocity round,.’ ‘I’ve seen wounds from this caliber many times and they always just go through everything. This would have taken a moose or two down, an elk, etc.’ But it didn’t go through. Charlie’s body stopped it.”
It's what Charlie would have done
If you followed Kirk during his career, you know he was very faith-based, and it drove his life.
During the memorial service, Erika announced that all was forgiven.
She said Charlie just “wanted to save young men, just like the one who took his life,” then added, "Our Savior said, 'Father, forgive them, for they not know what they do.' That young man … I forgive him. I forgive him because it was what Christ did, and it's what Charlie would do."
Kirk’s widow also noted that his favorite verse was Isaiah 6:8: "Here I am, Lord. Send me.” After Charlie quoted that verse, Erika said, “After Charlie finished, I met him backstage and I spoke to him … I said, Charlie, baby, please talk to me next time before you say that statement. Because when you say something like that, there is so much power in that verse … God will take you up on that, and He did."
Paying tribute
Trump, who just came back from a state visit with the King of England, appeared at the memorial, and I doubt there was anything that could have kept him away.
The president stated, "I know I speak for everyone here today when I say that none of us will ever forget Charlie Kirk, and neither will history.”
Erika Kirk joined Trump on stage during the playing of “God Bless America,” with the two sharing an embrace.
Kirk will be honored one more time at the White House when Trump posthumously awards Charlie the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which is the highest award a civilian can be bestowed in this country. Rest in peace, Charlie.
