Even Dems Pushing Back Against Hunter Biden Pardon
I lost count of the number of times Joe Biden and the White House stated that Hunter Biden would not be pardoned.
Well, Joe lied… and now even Democrats and liberal pundits are fuming over it.
No Pardon for Hunter
Just before Joe Biden took his oath of office, he promised a “restoration of democracy, of decency, of honor, of respect, the rule of law.”
The rule of law… this started an ongoing question by the media about Joe Biden pardoning Hunter, and time and time again Biden stated a pardon was not coming.
As recently as September 2023, Karine Jean-Pierre confirmed no pardon would be given. She did it again in December 2023, insisting that “nothing has changed.” After Hunter was convicted, Joe Biden stated, “As I said last week, I am the President, but I am also a Dad. I love our son, and we are so proud of the man he is today. As I also said last week, I will accept the outcome of this case and will continue to respect the judicial process as Hunter considers an appeal.”
This June, July, September, October, and after the election in November, either Biden or KJP insisted that “no,” Biden would not be pardoning Hunter.
Going Back on His Word
The shockwave went through the Democrat Party when Biden said he was going to pardon Hunter, claiming that Hunter was politically targeted by his Department of Justice.
Rep. Greg Landsman (D-OH) was among the first to distance himself, stating, "As a father, I get it. But as someone who wants people to believe in public service again, it’s a setback.”
Senator Michael Bennet (D-CO) added, “President Biden’s decision put personal interest ahead of duty and further erodes Americans’ faith that the justice system is fair and equal for all."
One of the most telling criticisms, however, came from Charlamagne Tha God, telling Democrats to get down off their high horse. He stated, “I just want Democrats to stop acting like they are on this moral high ground politically when they have shown us they’re not. You know, whether it’s skipping the primary process when Biden had stepped down and things like Biden pardoning his son.
“Stop acting like y’all are the pure party and Republicans aren’t. And it also shows me elected officials can do whatever they want as long as they have the political will and courage to do it.”
Thanks for the Gift
When Trump stated that he would consider pardoning Hunter, I laid into him because I thought it was the wrong thing to do. Why does Hunter get to avoid paying for his crimes, again, just to offer Democrats an olive branch? I believe Trump would have been raked over the coals had he pardoned Hunter, but now we don’t have to worry about that.
With that pardon of Hunter, Biden only gave credence to Trump’s argument that this administration politicized the DOJ. Biden has, in essence, given Trump a huge gift by doing this. Republican strategist and communicator Ryan Williams commented, "Biden has endorsed this idea that the Department of Justice acts in a political way, and he's thrown out long-held precedent when it comes to pardons.
"He's blowing up an institution and procedures, which is what Democrats have long criticized Trump for. They don't have any moral authority to say that Trump is undermining institutions and changing long-held procedures. That's what Joe Biden just did with this pardon."
Christmas came early for Donald Trump this year, and Joe Biden was playing Santa Claus.
