Fani Willis Disqualified from Trump RICO Case in Georgia
The wait is over and Donald Trump has scored another huge win.
An appeals court has just ruled that Fani Willis has been disqualified and must be removed from the Trump RICO case.
Signs of Trouble
Willis was in trouble very early in this case, and it was all her doing.
Almost immediately after she filed charges, there were allegations from the GOP that she had been coordinating her efforts with Special Counsel Jack Smith to time out these indictments against Trump.
Then, of course, there was the report that Willis was having an affair with one of her prosecutors, who also happened to be paid more than double the so-called expert RICO litigator that Wilis had brought in.
When that information hit, Trump’s attorneys, as well as his co-defendants, made their move to have Willis disqualified.
Delays
This all caused massive delays in the prosecution of Trump in Georgia, as all this needed to be worked out before the case itself could move forward.
When Trump initially filed to have her moved, the presiding judge shot down the motion, but he did force the prosecutor, Nathan Wade, to resign from the case, as well as leaving the door open for an appeal.
Well, they did appeal, and they had a hearing set, but it was mysteriously canceled only days before the hearing was set to take place.
When it was canceled, the assumption was that since Trump won the election, the motion was getting shelved, but now we are finding out it was likely because the court had already made up its mind.
Removed
On Thursday, the decision came down that Willis was to be removed from the case per the appellate court ruling. This has effectively killed the case against Trump.
Legal expert Jonathan Turley stated, “The immediate impact of this decision is overwhelming in terms of Willis herself. I mean, this court is basically saying that these cases are not supposed to be sort of vanity projects. You know, you were told by the lower court that you created this appearance of impropriety and the question for the court is why you didn't remove yourself.
“Many of us at the time said that most prosecutors would have seen that their continuation of the case was harming the case and harming the public interest. Willis simply refused to give up the ghost and insisted that she wanted to be the lead in this.”
At this point, it will be up to someone else to take up the case, and I am just not sure that is going to happen with Trump about to take office. The real question, however, is how this will impact Willis’ career.
