Fani Willis Refuses to Turn Over Communications Documents
Fani Willis has faced nothing but challenges since she announced her shady indictment of Donald Trump in the Georgia RICO case.
Trump has fought her all the way, with watchdogs now entering the fight, demanding communication letters from the DA office and the DOJ, but Willis is refusing to comply.
Federal Coordination
After taking over the House, a series of investigations were launched into the alleged lawsuit against Trump by Democrats and the DOJ.
At the top of that list was an investigation by House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) as to whether the Fulton County DA’s office was coordinating its efforts with the DOJ. More specifically, Jordan believed that Fulton County DA Fani Willis was coordinating with Special Counsel Jack Smith’s office.
Going back to August 2023, Jordan had requested that Willis turn over any and all communications related to this inquiry.
At the time, Jordan requested all “documents and communications” regarding the use of “federal funds,” “between or among the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office and DOJ and its components, including but not limited to the Office of Special Counsel Jack Smith, referring or relating to your office’s investigation of President Donald Trump or any of the other eighteen individuals against whom charges were brought in the indictment discussed above,” and “between the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office and any federal Executive Branch officials regarding your office’s investigation of President Donald Trump or any of the other eighteen individuals against whom charges were brought in the indictment discussed above.”
Disqualified
To that point, Willis had refused to cooperate with the investigation, basically telling Jordan he had no oversight over her office even though federal funds, in part, were financing the operation.
This led to Trump trying to have Willis disqualified, which also included allegations of misappropriation of funds and her affair with Nathan Wade.
The case against Trump had been delayed while that issue was litigated, but that appeal was also canceled by the court, likely due to Trump winning the election and the courts not wanting to go after a sitting president.
However, in related hearings, Nathan Wade stated that the offices had discussions on the case, but he really did not go into great detail. That did, however, stir this hornet's nest back up.
Joining the Fight
Conservative Watchdog Judicial Watch joined the fight, more or less taking it up where Jordan left off in terms of getting those documents from Willis.
Judicial Watch filed an Open Records request to have these communications turned over, but Willis continues to outright refuse, even though the courts have sided with the order. Willis, however, says she was not properly served, so she is not going to comply.
The Fulton County Open Records Department also claims no such communications exist, saying that after a “diligent” search for records, they were unable to produce any documentation between Willis and Smith, so we have to ask why Willis is putting up such a fight on this. We should note, Willis did, at one point, suggest such communications exist, so someone is clearly lying or outright covering something up here.
But, Open Records also stated that due to the Georgia Open Records Law, the communications between Willis and Smith and Willis and the January 6 Select Committee are "legally exempt" or "exempted from disclosure" to Judicial Watch. Something stinks really bad here, my friends, and I cannot wait until we are able to get to the bottom of this mess.
