Feds say they have proof of anti-Israel leader should be deported

The arrest and potential deportation of Mahmoud Khalil has been a hot topic since ICE showed up to take him into custody.

Dems say Trump has no right to remove him, but the feds are now saying they have the proof they need to remove him from the country.

The knock on the door

Earlier this month, ICE agents showed up at the home of Khalil to take him into custody for the purpose of deportation.

Khalil was one of the pro-Palestine protesters on the Columbia University campus that resulted in blockades, classes being shut down, and threats against Jewish students.

The Trump administration immediately came under fire, with Camille Mackler, founder of Immigrant ARC, a coalition of legal service providers in New York, pitching the narrative, “This has the appearance of a retaliatory action against someone who expressed an opinion the Trump administration didn’t like.”

Democrats immediately rallied to defend Khalis, who suddenly became the golden child of liberal pundits.

UN says let him go

The United Nations Human Rights office also called out Trump over the arrest, demanding Khalil’s immediate release.

The statement read, “The U.S. Government must immediately release Mahmoud Khalil, a U.S. resident, student and Palestinian rights activist detained by Department of Homeland Security (DHS) agents, and stop threatening and harassing foreign students who are campaigning for Palestinians’ rights, a group of independent human rights experts* said today.

“’The arrest, detention, and pending deportation of Mr. Mahmoud Khalil marks a dangerous escalation in the U.S. Government's crackdown on student activism and censorship of pro-Palestinian voices,’ the experts said.”

The experts continued, “The targeting of foreign nationals in the U.S. with threats to revoke student visas or residency rights is not only discriminatory and violates constitutional protections, but is highly dangerous as it seeks to exert a chilling effect on free expression among immigrants going far beyond the Palestinian issue.”

Feds Say Khalil Hid Information on Visa Application

Since the outset of this, the Trump administration has stated that it had proof of ties to questionable organizations and Khalil, but now they are getting more specific.

The DOJ is now saying that Khalil lied on his Visa application to cover up these ties, stating, "Regardless of his allegations concerning political speech, Khalil withheld membership in certain organizations and failed to disclose continuing employment by the Syria Office in the British Embassy in Beirut when he submitted his adjustment of status application. It is black-letter law that misrepresentations in this context are not protected speech."

"Thus, Khalil’s First Amendment allegations are a red herring, and there is an independent basis to justify removal sufficient to foreclose Khalil’s constitutional claim here.”

I have been hitting Trump pretty good for firing from the hip with his orders, and that initially appeared to be the case here as well. I truly hope the DOJ has the proof it says it has, and that this does not blow up in Trump’s face. If they are wrong, this is something that will absolutely come back to bite them during the 2026 and 2028 elections. Every move Trump makes is under the scope right now, but illegally picking someone up to deport them is a whole new level of ammo for Democrats to use. Ms. Bondi, I am praying you have all your T’s crossed and I’s dotted on this one.
