Fetterman raises concerns that Dems may have lost white male voters forever

The 2024 election was a bit of a shock, to say the least. Not so much that Trump won, but in how the demographics of the election played out.

There is one demographic that has Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) worried in terms of Dems ever being able to bring them back to the fold.

We Lost Them

Fetterman was recently discussing the election, specifically talking about the different demographics were Trump made headway or dominated.

One of those was white male voters, where Trump pulled in about 60%, right around the same number he pulled in 2020.

When asked if the party can win them back, Fetterman was less than optimistic, stating, “I don’t know, and truthfully, I’m not sure, I’m not sure if that’s possible, to be honest. I think that’s been seriously eroding for a while.

“And in some cases, in the conversations I’ve had, a lot of people, they don’t even want to say it publicly, but they just feel like, you know, the other side seems like it’s like, ‘Men, well, that men’s the problem. Men are to blame, or their masculinity is toxic. Or unless you’re able to conform to our very strict kinds of definition of what we think’s appropriate, well then, hey, I’m going to find an alternative.'”

Thanks, Barron

If you ask me, and since this is my column and you are reading it, you are already looking for my opinion, the key to the 2024 election for Donald Trump was Barron. He is the one that got Trump to branch out to podcasts, which clearly drew in younger men to vote for Trump.

I still remember being in Austin for the Longhorns game against Georgia, and a young, black male chatted me up about politics. This kid was about 22 years old, and he was all in for Trump. That would not have happened in 2020.

Trump did significantly better in the 18-34 demographic because he took Barron’s advice and went on shows like “The Joe Rogan Experience.” Now, while shows like this are dominated by a male audience, this also impacted young female voters.

What drew them to Trump… the economy. As I have stated before, most of us think with our bank accounts and wallets when we vote, especially when we see how policy is impacting our money. Trump’s message hit home, and that, to me, was the key.

All the Way Around

Democrats have dominated the young vote since I can remember. Yet, in this election, the 18-29 vote was nearly dead even, with Harris getting the edge at 51%. Harris also had a small edge in the 30-44 voters, but again, not what Democrats expected. Trump dominated the 45+ ages, which accounted for 59% of the overall vote.

Trump dominated the white vote, which is typical for a Republican in a presidential election, but Trump again chipped away with minority voters, and this was also a big key to his win. But again, this comes from Trump thinking out of the box, such as doing his barber shop town hall events around the country.

With a female candidate, somehow, Trump managed to gain ground with women voters, pulling 46%, up 3% from the 2020 election. Trump also picked up nearly 10% with Hispanic voters, which I find utterly amusing since Dems continue to push illegal immigration, calling Trump a racist.

As I wrote during the election, this is likely a one-shot deal for the GOP unless they can deliver results to the groups where they made these big gains. I think Trump overpromised, but I hope I am wrong. The key to all this could be Trump’s executive orders. Trump can now say he delivered, but Dems blocked him, which will infuriate the voters. This is something the GOP needs to drive home if they expect to keep the House and Senate in 2026 as well as keeping Congress and the White House in 2028.
