Former staffer for Mayor Eric Adams cuts deals with feds, likely to talk: Report
New York City Mayor Eric Adams has proclaimed his innocence for months now, and seems to have gotten by somewhat unscathed by scandal and legal issues.
However, that could soon change, according to the New York Post, as one of his aides just reportedly cut a deal with the feds -- and he's probably going to talk.
According to documents filed on Friday in Manhattan federal court, Mohamed Bahi, 40, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to defraud the government regarding campaign finance laws.
The alleged offenses took place during Adam's first run for the mayorship, according to court documents.
What's going on?
Bahi and his defense team have apparently been working a deal with the feds for months, according to the report. Bahi's role in Adams' administration was as a liaison to the Muslim community of New York City.
The Adams staffer is caught up in another legal issue from last October regarding allegations that he obstructed federal authorities, though it's not clear if his likely guilty plea has anything to do with that particular case.
Should Bahi agree to talk as part of the deal, which many believe is highly likely, he'll be the second person in the case to do so.
Mohamed Bahi has cut a deal with the feds and will cop to conspiracy as part of the historic indictment of Mayor Eric Adams, per a new court filing.
Bahi faced up to 20 years in prison for each prior two criminal counts and now faces just five. https://t.co/zBtjIG4Oad

The Post reported:
Bahi will be the second person to plead out as part of the mayor’s bribery case following Turkish businessman Erden Arkan last month.
Arkan, the owner of KSK Construction, copped to a single count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and admitted to illegally donating to the Adams campaign.
Adams, throughout the ordeal, has maintained his innocence.
What did he do?
The Post recapped Bahi's involvement:
The feds allege that Bahi set up a straw donor scheme to allow a New York City businessman to donate more than legally allowed and still get public matching funds during Adams’ 2021 campaign.
He was not named in the original indictment against Adams, but referred to as a staffer.
Bahi was one of the staffers who abruptly resigned last October before the bombshell indictment against Adams was made public.
Only time will tell if Bahi decides to talk. If so, it could spell trouble for Adams.
