Former Trump US Attorney nominee eyeing last-second pardons by Biden
Last week, Donald Trump announced that his nominee for US Attorney in DC, Ed Martin, was having his name pulled.
Trump found a new home for Martin, however, and now he is looking into Joe Biden’s last-second pardons.
The final act
Joe Biden may have saved his most corrupt act for last, signing sweeping pardons of family members just hours before he left the Oval Office for good.
Biden claimed his family members were “subjected to unrelenting attacks and threats, motivated solely by a desire to hurt me — the worst kind of partisan politics.
“Unfortunately, I have no reason to believe these attacks will end.”
In addition to numerous Biden family members, Biden also granted sweeping and preemptive pardons to Dr. Anthony Fauci, retired Gen. Mark Milley, members of the House committee that investigated the January 6 attack on the Capitol, and various allies.
Pulling the nomination
Trump wanted Martin as his US Attorney in DC, but he never got support from Republicans for the post.
The biggest obstacles for Martin were that he had spoken at the Stop the Steal rally and defended several of the rioters, which did not sit well with some of the Senators who would decide his fate.
The biggest resistance came from Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC), who said he would have supported Martin for any other jurisdiction except for DC.
Trump, after saying how disappointed he was, revealed, “We have somebody else that will be great. We have somebody else who we’ll be announcing.” Trump then announced that Fox News host Jeanine Pirro would be nominated.
Let’s investigate
Martin may be on his way out, but there is a little something he has cooking, and I don’t think Joe Biden is going to like it.
Martin revealed that he was looking at Biden’s pardons, stating, “It looks at least like something that you could be corrupt. When [former President] Bill Clinton pardoned Mark Rich, and it turned out that Mark Rich had paid a boat load of money to one of Clinton’s friend’s lawyers. That’s not corrupt, it’s not criminal, because the plenary power of the pardon. But in the case of Joe Biden and his pardons, they were so specific. Back 14 years, covering everything you’ve ever done. And when I say specific, they were broad, but they had time stuff on them.
“And that at least leads to questions, because the plenary power’s true. But the question is what is going on here and I did get responses from some of them and those questions are ongoing.”
I would absolutely love to see these pardons challenged, as I would have to question the legality of a pre-emptive pardon, as I cannot recall one ever having been issued before Biden did this for his family and friends. Don’t be surprised to see Martin tapped as a special counsel to run this investigation if they find something tasty.
