Gaza Hospital Director Arrested for Allegedly Working with Terrorist Group Hamas
During this war between Israel and Hamas, the terrorist organization has regularly used civilians as a shield, including having set up camp in a Gaza hospital.
It is now being reported that a Gaza hospital director was allegedly working with Hamas, and Israeli authorities have arrested him.
The Invasion
On October 5, 2023, Hamas invaded Israel in one of the most callous acts of war we have ever seen.
The terror group took more than 250 civilian prisoners, many of whom were women and elderly, and brutally murdered more than 1,000 people, many of whom were attending a dance festival, as well as elderly and children, including newborns.
After the attack, Hamas did what it is known for, which is hiding among the civilian population.
This included setting up headquarters in hospitals and schools. They do this believing their enemies are less likely to attack due to the threat of the loss of life of civilians.
Hamas Sets Up HQ in Hospital
As the war played out, Hamas set up shop in, among other civilian areas, a hospital in northern Gaza called Kamal Adwan Hospital.
When the IDF launched an attack on the hospital, its director, Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, who was writing opinion pieces for the New York Times during this war, reported that the Israeli forces killed five staff members during the strike.
All the while, the IDF contended that this was a Hamas stronghold, stating, “The Kamal Adwan Hospital serves as a Hamas terrorist stronghold in northern Gaza, from which terrorists have been operating throughout the war.”
It turns out that the doctor is now being accused of having been a Hamas operative.
Working for the Wrong Side
This week, 240 people were arrested by Israeli authorities who were working at the hospital, including Dr. Hussam Abu Sayifa.
A nurse at the hospital, Rawiya Al Batsh, commented after the IDF took the doctor into custody as soon as they arrived at the hospital, stating, “We do not know the fate of Dr. Hussam. He was actually threatened by the army as soon as they arrived at the hospital.”
The IDF arrested Dr. Sayifa, saying that he was among those suspected of being a “Hamas and Islamic Jihad” terrorist. Adding, “The detention of suspects involved in terrorism, their arrest, and the search conducted on their bodies were carried out in accordance with international law.”
MedGlobal, the humanitarian NGO providing healthcare in disaster areas that Safiya works for, defended the doctor after the arrest, but that will carry very little weight with the IDF and PM Netanyahu. He has written scathing pieces in the New York Times against Israel and the IDF, so I would not expect a pleasant outcome for him.
