GOP Calls for Swift Confirmation of Nominees
Donald Trump plans on a massive overhaul of our law enforcement and intelligence agencies after he takes office, including replacing FBI Director Wray with Kash Patel.
After the terror attack on New Year’s Day, Trump is demanding that the GOP stiffen up and get his nominees through as quickly as possible because “Lives depend on it.”
The Terror Attack
As you all know by now, there was another terror attack on New Year’s Day.
The nation was horrified when a man drove his truck through the crowd in New Orleans, killing more than a dozen people, injuring dozens more, with a death toll that is likely to go up with some of the wounded having life-threatening injuries.
The man’s truck reportedly had a terrorist flag on the back of it, which the FBI initially tried to downplay as not being a terror attack.
It was later revealed the driver of the truck had been radicalized, although just how he was radicalized has not yet been fully investigated.
What we do know, however, is that the man had activity that should have alerted DHS and the FBI to keep an eye on him, but that was never done.
Confirm Them Now
To that point, Republicans are now being told to stiffen up their backbones and thwart any plan by the Democrats to derail Trump’s nominees.
Senator Thune (R-S.D.), who is taking over as Majority Leader in the Senate for the 119th Session, stated, "Our hearts go out to everyone affected by the senseless terror attack in New Orleans.
"With reports of ISIS inspiration, the American people expect clear answers from the administration. The threat posed by ISIS will outlast this administration, and this is a clear example of why the Senate must get President Trump’s national security team in place as quickly as possible."
Regarding the attack, Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) also stated that he will be working with Trump on this attack, stating, "I’ll be working to ensure President Trump has every tool at his disposal, including a fully confirmed national security and intelligence team ASAP to investigate these attacks and make our country safe again.”
People Die
There were clearly some shortcomings here from both local police and the FBI. Locally, it was reported that the new police superintendent in New Orleans failed to use the “archer” devices to block the sidewalk, not realizing they were in storage.
As far as the FBI goes, as we noted above, there was online activity by the driver of the truck that should have gotten their attention. Why this person was not being monitored is a complete and utter disgrace on the part of Director Wray.
To that point, a source close to Trump told Fox News, "The FBI has a no-fail mission. There is no room for error. When they fail, Americans die. It's a necessity that Kash Patel gets confirmed ASAP.”
I agree… I am still not completely sold on Kash Patel as the FBI Director, but if he gets through the committee, he has to be cleared immediately to get that agency back on track. This was very much a preventable attack on several different fronts, yet they all failed. That must be corrected immediately, and both Wray and Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick must be held accountable.
