GOP hits back over Dems claims on Medicaid cuts

Donald Trump has always maintained that Social Security and Medicaid will not be touched, while also stating the programs need to be revamped and checked for fraud and corruption.

Dems have tried to say that Trump will cut both programs, and the latest stunt by the party may have just backfired on them.

The Joint Address

This battle really got kicked into high gear in March when Trump had a joint session address.

Dems made a big scene about cutting Trump’s Medicaid and Social Security cuts, even though Trump and the Party had stated they were going to protect these programs while rooting out fraud and waste.

Dems being Dems, they made a big production of it anyway, with Rep. Al Green (D-TX) protesting during the speech, which resulted in his removal from the chamber.

After the fact, he justified his behavior, claiming, “I was making it clear to the president that he has no mandate to cut Medicaid. I have people who are very fearful, these are poor people and they all need Medicaid in their lives when it comes to their health care.”

Pushing Back

The White House wanted to make it clear that it had no intention of touching these programs, as Democrats claimed.

A statement was released, saying, “The Trump Administration will not cut Social Security, Medicare, or Medicaid benefits. President Trump himself has said it (over and over and over again).

“Elon Musk didn’t say that, either. The press is lying again.

“Here is Musk’s direct quote: ‘The waste and fraud in entitlement spending — which is most of the federal spending is entitlements — so, that’s, like, the big one to eliminate. That’s the, sort of half-trillion, maybe $6-700 billion a year.’”

Here We Go again

So, in my eyes, the strategy by Democrats is to make everyone believe that Trump wants to cut these programs, even though they have done nothing to even hint that is the case. Then, when the cuts are not made, the Dems will try to say Trump caved to them and did not make the cuts.

To that point, after Trump repeatedly went on record to say he would not cut these programs, the DNC launched a new attack called "Fight to Save Medicaid," which claims the administration is ready to “gut Medicaid and other critical programs.”

Republicans were fuming, with Rep. Mike Lawler (R-N.Y.) stating, "The dishonest Democrats should rename their campaign ‘the fight to save taxpayer-funded welfare benefits for illegal immigrants’ because that’s what they’re really trying to do. This is a desperate political stunt, plain and simple. The truth is that Congressman Lawler has been very clear on this: he will vote to protect and strengthen Medicaid for those who rely on this critical program."

The unfortunate reality of this is that because Democrats are pushing this narrative, if no program cuts are in the new budget, the media will push the narrative that it was Democrats who saved the day, even though these programs were never at risk. State-run media… political theater… that is what is taking place here.
