Greenland Lawmaker Says Trump Jr. Visit Was All ‘Staged’
Donald Trump has been on a mission to get support for the United States to obtain Greenland.
As part of that, he claimed that he sent his son out there, but that was not necessarily the truth, and a Greenland lawmaker just added more context.
Jr. Going to Greenland
Last week, Donald Trump made it sound like his son had been sent on a diplomatic mission on his behalf, claiming, “I am hearing that the people of Greenland are ‘MAGA.’”
Trump then added that his son and “various representatives” would “visit some of the most magnificent areas and sights.”
Trump concluded, “Greenland is an incredible place, and the people will benefit tremendously if, and when, it becomes part of our Nation. We will protect it, and cherish it, from a very vicious outside World. MAKE GREENLAND GREAT AGAIN!”
All of that was complete and utter nonsense, as it was later revealed that Jr. headed there to do some content for his podcast and they did not “officially” meet with anyone in regard to his father’s plans to acquire Greenland.
All Staged
Pipaluk Lynge, a member of Parliament from Greenland’s largest party as well as chair of the parliamentary foreign and security policy committee, confirmed that there were no meetings that took place with Jr.
She stated, “No journalists were allowed to interview him. It was all staged to make it seem like we — the Greenlandic people — were MAGA and love to be a part of the USA.”
She also noted that there were some very negative responses to his visit, stating, “People were curious, but some took pictures giving him [the] finger at the airport … Some wrote on Facebook: Yankee go home.”
Donald Trump Jr. reportedly handed out MAGA hats during his visit. He was also told of the comments from local politicians, to which his representative called “ridiculous.”
Why Does Trump Want Greenland
There would be some economic advantages to obtaining Greenland, but I am just not sure it is worth the cost.
James Stavridis, former NATO supreme allied commander, explained, “It sits at the very top of the North Atlantic. It protects approaches to our own country … It’s geographically very important. It’s full of strategic minerals, rare earth, probably a lot of gold. It’s got a lot of natural resources.”
While Greenland’s PM has stated he would be willing to talk to Trump, he has made it quite clear the nation is not for sale. Stavridis addressed this as well, stating, “I think that’s how it plays out … The Prime Minister of Greenland said, ‘We are not for sale. But we are open for business.’ I think we ought to take him at his word.”
I just don’t see the overall benefit of purchasing the nation, but yes, I agree, there is business to be had that could make us less reliant on the Chinese, especially if we continue down the path of EVs, where we clearly do not have enough elements and minerals here to produce chips and batteries needed for their operation.
