Harris Does Solo Appearance at NABJ

On Tuesday, Kamala Harris left her trusted sidekick, Tim Walz, behind while attending the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) in Philadelphia.

Harris added yet another accent to her portfolio to try to make up ground with black voters that have been lost to Trump.

She was quick to bring up Trump’s comments about Haitian migrants in Ohio to score some cheap points.

Harris Goes Solo

Harris has kept Walz by her side, including her first major media interview. This time, however, she decided to go solo.

The event was moderated by three black journalists, Eugene Daniels of Politico Playbook, WHYY's Tonya Mosely, and TheGrio's Gerren Keith Gaynor.

Harris has been to PA more than a dozen times, as this is a key Blue Wall state that is among a handful of states that will decide this year’s election.

Philadelphia usually carries the state, but Harris and Trump are in a virtual tie, so Harris is hoping she can swing the minority vote more in her favor to win the prize.

Harris commented on Trump’s claim that Haitians were eating cats and dogs, stating, "It's harmful, and it's hateful and grounded in some age-old stuff that we should not have the tolerance for.

"We've got to say that you cannot be entrusted with standing behind the seal of the president of the United States of America, engaging in that hateful rhetoric that, as usual, is designed to divide us as a country."

This was a self-inflicted wound by Trump, and I put the blame on Senator JD Vance (R-OH) for this one, as he was the one who first started to push this narrative.

Without actually having proof, he started to tell the media that there were reports of migrants eating pets in Springfield. He would later walk that back, but then doubled down again during another interview and even admitted he would make up stories if it got the media to cover the immigration problem in this country.

The claim made Trump look like a conspiracy loon, and it was a moment that would define that debate. Vance is just lucky it did not hurt Trump as bad as we thought it would, at least not yet.

I fully expect to see Democrats placing ads with that segment as we head down the final stretch, though.

Worse, this gives Harris and Dems ammunition to again accuse Trump of being a racist, which is what Harris pushed during this entire interview to sway minority voters to her side.
