Hegseth says there is a plan to forcibly take Greenland

For whatever reason, Donald Trump has been obsessed with Greenland during this presidency.

The subject had died down, but it is now top of mind again after Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth dropped a bombshell on Congress.

Trump Wants Greenland

Trump has been obsessed with adding Greenland as a territory since the campaign, and he did not give up that obsession once he took office.

For instance, just days after taking office, Trump stated, "I don't really know what claim Denmark has to it, but it would be a very unfriendly act if they didn't allow that to happen because it's for the protection of the free world.

"I think Greenland we'll get because it has to do with freedom of the world.”

With no real proof this was the case, Trump repeatedly claimed that the people of Greenland wanted to become part of the United States.

No Thanks

When Jens-Frederik Nielsen took over as PM, he addressed the subject of becoming a US territory, and he pretty much tossed the entire idea into the garbage.

Nielsen stated, “President Trump says that the United States is getting Greenland. Let me be clear: the United States won’t get that. We do not belong to anyone else. We determine our own future.”

He was speaking to an interview that Trump had just given (this was in March 2025), where Trump had stated,  “We’ll get Greenland. Yeah, 100%” and argued that while there’s a “good possibility that we could do it without military force … I don’t take anything off the table.”

When the idea of military force came up, I don’t think anyone took it seriously, but Hegseth just obliterated that narrative.

We Have a Plan

Hegseth was on the Hill this week, and he dropped a bit of a bombshell, revealing that there was, in fact, a plan to take Greenland by force.

Hegseth was peppered about the plan, and he was coy, but it was clear what he was saying.

When directly asked about such an attack plan, he responded, “Our job at the Defense Department is to have plans for any contingency.”

The week was not a good one for Hegseth, who time and again had Democrats demand his resignation, as well as Republicans go after him for our stance with Russia and Ukraine. I have stated many times that I think Hegseth is in way over his head, and I look forward to the day when he turns in his resignation and Trump puts someone far better qualified into this post.
