Hegseth will scale down general and flag officers

When Donald Trump was elected, he promised big changes in the military and said that Pete Hegseth was going to be his guy to make those changes.

Well, Hegseth just shook a tree and a bunch of generals and admirals are falling out.

Peace Through Strength

In March, Donald Trump announced his “Peace through Strength” initiative for the military.

The announcement started, "President Donald J. Trump will always put the American people first — and through restoring the U.S. military’s mission of lethality and leading with peace through strength in his foreign policy, President Trump is making good on his commitment to restore safety and security around the world."

The announcement continued on, citing different achievements regarding the military, as well as improved recruiting numbers since Trump had taken office.

Trump also announced a massive budget for the military, but he followed that up by saying there would be some big changes coming.

Radical changes coming

When Biden was in office, we had a military that was more focused on DEI than on fighting.

Biden was fighting for transgenders to be in the military and having the American taxpayer pay for the transition surgeries if they were enlisted.

Trump announced that big changes were coming, which goes without saying, Democrats and the left were going to have some major problems with these changes.

Not long after being confirmed, Secretary Hegseth ended DEI, canceled contracts, announced that transgenders would no longer be able to serve, and they were just getting started. One of the most significant changes was just made a few days ago.

Scale it down

Going back to World War II, there was one general or flag officer for every 6,000 troops. That number is now at 1:1,400. We have people wearing stars who have never been on a field of battle or heard a shot fired in anger.

According to Hegseth, that is about to change, as he is ordering a 20% reduction in active general and flag officers, as well as a 20% reduction among National Guard general and flag officers. Hegseth is calling this the “less generals, more GIs policy."

He added, "This is not a slash-and-burn exercise meant to punish high-ranking officers" but rather a "deliberative process, working with the joint chiefs with one goal: maximizing strategic readiness and operational effectiveness by making prudent reductions."

I give respect to anyone who has served this country, but when you see someone like John Kirby, who was a PR officer for the Navy virtually his entire career, making the rank of Admiral, it sickens me. In my opinion, general and flag officer positions should be reserved for warriors and intelligence officers, not paper-pushers. This is also sounds like a great way to shed pro-DEI officers from the ranks, so this is one move by Hegseth that has my full support.
