Homan Leaves ABC Journalist Speechless on Deportations
One of Trump’s main sticking points before and after the election was immigration, so it was no surprise to see Trump issue a slew of executive orders on Day One.
Trump’s border czar, Tom Homan, has been tasked with enforcing this agenda and these orders, and he had a rather interesting interview this week that left the jaw hanging of the journalist who discussed the matter with him.
Trump’s Orders
Trump has often described the problems at the border as an invasion, and this was done purposely to justify his declaring a national emergency at the border.
Trump has since given the order to use the military to help lock down the border and keep illegals out of the country unless they go through proper channels.
Elizabeth Goitein, the senior director of the Liberty and National Security Program at the Brennan Center for Justice, stated, "It's been widely understood that the president has inherent constitutional authority to repel sudden attacks or invasions. So these are terms that summon, essentially, war powers.”
Some of Trump’s orders are already in play, while others, such as his birthright citizenship order, are already being challenged in court.
Homan Makes Promise
Tom Homan, who I think is the perfect man for this job, promised the day before Trump took office that deportations were going to start immediately.
Homan stated, "ICE will start arresting public safety threats and national security threats on day one. We'll be arresting people across the country, uninhibited by any prior administration guidelines. Why Chicago was mentioned specifically, I don't know."
He later added, "When ICE goes out, they're going to know exactly who they're looking for and pretty much where they'll find them.”
While Trump has talked about removing every one of the more than eight million illegals that entered the country on the Biden watch, Homan tried to set expectations to something more reasonable, noting that they would start with criminal illegals and work their way out from there.
ABC Left Speechless
ABC News host Martha Raddatz was tasked with interviewing Homan on the slew of arrests that have already taken place since Trump took office, and she seemed stunned by Homan’s responses.
Homan touted the fact that crossings have already dropped, but he doubled down on more arrests and deportations as Congress frees up more money for the arrests, stating, “So we’re going to do this on a priority basis, as President Trump has promised, but as that aperture opens, there will be more arrests nationwide.”
He went on to explain a simple fact that Democrats and the media continue to forget; that being that crossing the border illegally is a crime. Homan stated, “If you’re in a country illegally, you’re on the table, because it’s not okay to violate laws of this country. You’ve got to remember, every time you enter this country illegally, you’ve violated a crime under Title 8, United States Code 1325, it’s a crime.”
If you have been reading my reports regularly, you know where I stand on illegal immigration. As far as I am concerned, every illegal in this country should be removed, and that includes DACA recipients. DACA will wind up being Trump’s bargaining chip, however, likely using amnesty for DACA recipients to finally end the program.
