Huntsville teacher resigns after child-solicitation sting arrest, report says

Breitbart News reports that a Huntsville middle-school teacher resigned after a child-solicitation sting arrest, while the district barred him from every city school campus.

Breitbart News reported that Huntsville police arrested Joshua Feemster, 33, on a charge of electronic solicitation of a child after an online investigation.

The account says Feemster allegedly believed he would meet a child. Instead, the online exchange was part of an operation involving an undercover officer.

Huntsville City Schools placed Feemster on leave after the arrest. He later resigned effective Sept. 30, and the district banned him from every city school campus.

Feemster posted a $15,000 bond and was released. A court hearing is scheduled for the end of the month, though the court and case number were not identified.

Huntsville schools removed Feemster and barred his return

Feemster taught at the Academy for Academics and Arts Middle School in Huntsville, Alabama. He also held a leading role in the school’s arts program.

The district said, “The safety of our students is our highest priority, and our schools remain focused on providing a safe and supportive learning environment for all students.”

That promise now requires follow-through. Removing an employee after an arrest is one step; preserving trust requires firm rules, clear communication and cooperation with lawful investigations.

A celebrated arts program now faces hard questions

The arrest stands in sharp contrast with Feemster’s earlier public role at the school. In 2023, the Educational Theatre Association named the Academy for Academics and Arts a “Premiere Community for Theatre Education.”

Feemster said at the time, “Receiving this designation will help our students, program, and school to continue to develop and be a leader for theatre education in the state of Alabama.”

He also said the school was proud to be Alabama’s first theater program to receive the distinction and among the few elementary and middle schools recognized.

Award language cannot replace safeguards. Public institutions earn trust by enforcing standards when allegations arise, much as government agencies must do in other regulated fields, including recent trucking-school enforcement.

Federal officials are pressing districts on educator misconduct

Breitbart also reported that the Trump administration had announced a broader effort involving school districts and educator sexual misconduct. The U.S. Department of Education began examining districts that appeared not to comply with federal law, though the specific laws were not identified.

Education Secretary Linda McMahon sent school districts a “Dear Colleague” letter the previous month. She wrote, “This epidemic of nationwide sexual abuse in our schools must end.”

The federal effort also targets what the account called “passing the trash.” The term describes concealing sexual offenses, moving an educator to another school or recommending that person to another district.

That approach reflects a plain governing rule: agencies should enforce standards instead of treating them as suggestions. Similar questions about federal authority and compliance drive conflicts over policies such as Medicaid work requirements.
