James Carville promises Democrats will investigate Trump's family after midterms, calls his children "stupid"

Veteran Democratic strategist James Carville declared open season on President Donald Trump and his family this week, vowing that Democrats will launch investigations into Trump, his children, and their spouses after the upcoming midterm elections.

In a video posted Tuesday, Carville addressed the president directly, promising a political reckoning he seems to have been fantasizing about for years.

"They're going to start going after you. Then they're going to start figuring out where all the money stolen is. Then they're going to go after your stupid jacka-- kids and their spouses and all the other bulls--- that you see, and they're going to investigate the s--- out of you."

That's a senior Democratic strategist, openly relishing the prospect of using government power to target a president's family members. Not alleging specific crimes. Not citing evidence of wrongdoing. Just promising that the investigative apparatus will be turned loose on the president's children and their spouses because Democrats want political revenge.

A track record of confident predictions that never land

This would carry more weight if Carville hadn't spent the last several years being wrong about virtually everything.

Before the 2024 election, Carville was so convinced Kamala Harris would win that he wrote a column for The New York Times titled, "Three Reasons I'm Certain Kamala Harris Will Win." She lost. Before that, he warned that if Trump won, he would mass-arrest his critics in the media. That didn't happen either.

According to Fox News, when Trump began his second term, Carville predicted the administration would collapse in 30 days. It didn't.

Now the same man who has been consistently, spectacularly wrong about the trajectory of American politics wants the public to believe that a Democratic wave is coming in the midterms, that investigations will follow, that impeachment will materialize, and that Trump will eventually be hauled before international courts. Carville even referenced "the Hog or Hague or somewhere in the Netherlands," apparently unsure of the name of the very institution he's counting on to deliver justice.

The quiet part out loud

What makes the video remarkable isn't Carville's trademark profanity. It's the candor about what Democrats actually want to do with power if they get it.

He didn't talk about legislation. He didn't talk about policy. He didn't outline what Democrats would do for the American people if they won the midterms. The entire message was about investigations, indictments, and punishment.

"The Democrats are going to investigate you to no end."

This is the platform. Not the economy, not border security, not healthcare. Investigations. Subpoenas. Targeting family members. Carville is telling voters exactly what the Democratic Party's governing priority would be: not solving problems, but settling scores.

He even floated a theory that Trump might "voluntarily resign early" and be pardoned by Vice President J.D. Vance on his way out, a scenario that exists nowhere outside Carville's imagination but reveals the fantasy Democrats are nursing.

War crimes allegations with nothing behind them

Carville didn't stop at domestic threats. He escalated to the international stage, accusing the president of approaching war crimes in connection with Iran.

"When it comes to the stuff you're doing in Iran, I got to tell you, you're getting really, really, really close to war crimes here. You're probably going to cross the line."

No specifics. No evidence. No legal framework. Just a vague accusation lobbed with the confidence of a man who couldn't correctly identify the city where the International Criminal Court sits. Carville threw around "war crimes" the way partisans throw around any accusation they think might stick to a wall. It's not legal analysis. It's rhetoric designed to normalize the idea that the sitting president of the United States is a criminal, without doing any of the work to prove it.

The revenge caucus

Carville also predicted that Republican senators would eventually turn on Trump, a prediction Democrats have been making since roughly 2016 with nothing to show for it.

"You know who's going to turn on you? What's left of the Republican senators."

He closed the video with what amounted to a taunt:

"I got news for you, dude. You're done. And we're going to enjoy watching your downfall. Thank you very much."

Note the word "enjoy." This is not a man motivated by justice or concern for the republic. This is gloating. The mask is off, and what's underneath is pure partisan bloodlust dressed up as civic duty.

A White House spokesman responded to Fox News Digital with characteristic bluntness, calling Carville "a stone-cold loser who clearly suffers from a severe and debilitating case of Trump Derangement Syndrome that has rotted his peanut-sized brain."

Coarse, sure. But after a decade of Carville's predictions aging like milk in the sun, it's hard to argue the diagnosis is wrong.

What this actually tells us

Carville's rant is useful not because it's persuasive, but because it's honest. This is what a significant faction of the Democratic Party wants the midterms to be about. Not a referendum on policy. Not a debate about the direction of the country. A launchpad for investigations targeting the president, his children, and anyone connected to them.

They tried this before. The investigations, the impeachments, the breathless predictions that the walls were closing in. Voters watched. Voters remembered. And voters elected Trump to a second term anyway.

Carville seems to believe the electorate will be more receptive to the revenge pitch this time around. His track record suggests otherwise. But at least he's telling the American people what they'd actually be voting for.

Not governance. Retribution.
