Jeffries and Mamdani exchange blows in the media

There is a little something interesting brewing in New York between Democrat mayoral primary winner Zohran Mamdani and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.).

Jeffries has yet to endorse Mamdani in the race, hesitant over some controversial comments and videos that have recently resurfaced.

Now, Mamdani’s allies are threatening to primary Jeffries, and his office came out swinging.

We Will Primary Him

The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) are all in on Mamdani, and they want more than just New York City.

The organization now seems to be setting its focus on leadership in the House, targeting Jeffries with a primary run.

The group stated, "We encourage all people inspired by the Zohran campaign to join their local DSA or YDSA chapter and get involved so we can continue to fight alongside Zohran and DSA elected officials across the country to create the future we all deserve.”

Its co-chair then put Jeffries on notice, stating, "His leadership has left a vacuum that organizations like DSA are filling. I think that is more important right now.”

Jeffries Swings Back

If Mamdani had hoped to get Jeffries' endorsement, that ship seems to have sailed, as his office came out firing against the group and Mamdani.

His office stated, “Leader Hakeem Jeffries is focused on taking back the House from the MAGA extremists who just ripped health care away from millions of Americans.

“However, if Team Gentrification wants a primary fight, our response will be forceful and unrelenting. We will teach them and all of their incumbents a painful lesson on June 23, 2026.”

This is interesting because we have already heard whispers of unhappiness about Jeffries as leader, and there is also the fact that DNC leadership has already expressed support for Mamdani. This could be a nice civil war brewing in the Democrat Party.

Trump Chimes In

I wonder if the “enemy of my enemy” will come into play, as Trump is clearly set on hurting Mamdani any way possible.

Trump has already hit him with about a dozen attacks, including threatening to have him arrested if he interferes with ICE, as well as pushing back against Mamdani’s claim that he would have Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrested via the ICC warrant.

Trump further stated, "If a communist gets elected to run New York, it can never be the same.”

This is going to be the clash of the century, and if Mamdani actually wins, the entire country will be watching to see if the City Council bends to his will or stands up to his radical plan to turn NYC into one big commune.
