Jeffries avoids questions about Dem advocating for Garcia
Over the last month, Kilmar Abrego Garcia has become the poster child of the Democrats to fight back against Donald Trump.
With unflattering reports blowing up about Garcia, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) is now avoiding questions about his caucus burning taxpayer funds to visit and defend Garcia.
Bring Him Home
This is the hill that Democrats have chosen to die on, and Democrat strategist James Carville, who has been pushing back against the party, supports this idea.
He stated, “People say, ‘Well, should we really fight on this turf or should we fight more on ordinary people?’ This we should fight on. You can’t pivot to an economic issue. This is why we think we’re a country.”
He later added, “There’s real wisdom in that and history has taught us that. First, they came for him, and then we’re going to say no right there. We got to keep fighting this. I think this is worthy of being at the top agenda of things that we’re going to fight over is get this guy back home.”
I have to admit, this position shocked me because I did not expect Carville to get behind something like this, especially when you consider the reports that have been surfacing about Garcia.
Could Get Away with It
Democrats and the media have taken to calling Garcia the “Maryland man,” but he is not from Maryland. He is an illegal immigrant who should not be in this country.
To my point above, yet another report has surfaced of Garcia allegedly threatening to harm his wife.
In a 2020 motion for a protective order against Garcia, his wife, Jennifer Vasquez Sura, wrote, “I also have a [recording] that [he] told my ex-mother-in-law that even if he kills me no one can do anything to him.”
During a recent press conference, his wife was asked about the protective orders, but she refused to answer any questions on the matter.
Jeffries Avoids Questions
With these reports, the media is trying to get leaderships position on this and if the party, as a whole, support the idea of advocating for an alleged MS-13 gang member who apparently had an affinity for threatening and beating his wife.
When Jeffries was asked if Dems were making a mistake by rallying around Garcia, as Rep. Henry Cueller (D-TX) stated, Jeffries responded, “Our reaction is that Donald Trump has the lowest approval rating of any president in modern American history.”
When Jeffries' office was asked about rumors that behind the scenes, he has been telling his fellow Democrat to chill on the Garcia narrative, his office responded, “This is patently false, and thinly sourced innuendo. When Leader Jeffries says ‘more is more’ pushback on this lawless administration, he means it. As Leader Jeffries has repeatedly said, House Democrats will never stop fighting for the release of Mr. Abrego Garcia.”
This has quickly become a make or break issue for both parties, as someone is going to take a beating on this when the issue is finally settled. For our sake, I hope it is not the Trump administration.
