Jeffries Says He Can Work with Trump
As we all know, we are now only about six weeks from Trump taking office, and some Democrats are starting to buckle.
Whereas Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) was always combative with Trump, House Minority Leader Jeffries (D-N.Y.), at least on the surface, seems receptive to finding common ground for legislation.
Never Happen Again
Pelosi never got along with Trump, and her reaction during one of Trump’s State of the Union addresses was shameful, shredding the speech behind Trump.
Pelosi, prior to the election, talked about how Trump could never be president again, and she continued to push her woke agenda, then derailed Biden’s campaign, while then trying to blame Biden for the loss.
Even after the monstrous win by the GOP in the general election, Pelosi maintains that the American people did not rebuke the Democrat Party. She stated, “Well, we lost the presidential election, [but] in many cases, our Democrats in the House ran ahead of the presidential ticket. So, your branding that we all got rejected, we didn’t. We’re still in the fight right now, and it’s going to be a very close call. I don’t see it as an outright rejection of the Democratic Party.
“Now, I do have a discomfort level with some of the Democrats right now who are saying, ‘Oh, we abandoned the working class.’ No, we didn’t. That’s who we are. We are the kitchen table, working-class party of America. And that’s why we are a close call in the House right now in a year where the map is bright red across the board.”
Going on Offense
Democrat governors as a whole have announced they will fight Donald Trump every step of the way when he comes back into office.
Not surprisingly, that charge is being led by Democrat California Governor Gavin Newsom, considered to be a favorite to run in 2028 on the Democrat ticket. Newsom claimed he was going to Trump-proof the state before Trump came into office.
Newsom called for a special legislative session to address how to keep California as California with Trump coming into office.
Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey shredded Trump’s plan for tariff, saying it would be devastating to the state, especially considering how much trade it does with Canada. Washington Gov. Jay Inslee also spoke of resisting Trump, stating, "Democratic governors should approach this with strength and resolution and an activist agenda. Because this is the place where we can make progress too.”
Dems Starting to Crack
One of the first Dems to crack and suggest backing off this hostile stance to work with Trump was Michigan Governor Whitmer, stating, "People in Michigan, like a majority of Americans, voted for Donald Trump, and my oath is to Michigan.
"Obviously, I’ve got experience in this type of environment that will help inform how I continue to fight for Michigan. But I know Donald Trump cares about Michigan. And I’m hoping that because of that, we’ll be able to find some common ground in some important ways."
Next up was House Minority Leader Jeffries, who stated, "Democrats have consistently made clear that we are ready, willing and able, to find bipartisan common ground with the incoming administration on any issue.”
He is lying, as Democrats have proven time and time again they want to do things their way or not at all, but let’s give him the benefit of the doubt for now. If he is truly willing to work with Trump, there should be agreements on immigration and possibly even abortion during this term. But if Trump puts something reasonable on the table and it is rejected by Jeffries, the gloves come off again.
