Jeffries Says No More Bailouts by Dems for Speaker Johnson

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) is losing support rather quickly in the House after the latest spending bill debacle.

He has been lucky to this point that House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) has bailed him out, but now even Jeffries is jumping ship.

On Your Own

Jeffries has saved Johnson on legislation several times, but that is about to end.

With the GOP ready to oust Johnson, the Democrat leader sees an opportunity to have the GOP clog up Congress and possibly prevent Donald Trump from taking office if they cannot certify the election.

Jeffries is also livid that Johnson backed out of the original spending package that had been negotiated with Dems. When he was asked about throwing Johnson another lifeboat to save him, he quite bluntly responded, “And there will be no Democrats available to save him — or the extreme MAGA Republicans — from themselves.”

That is Jeffries putting Trump and the GOP on notice that if the GOP is not aligned, they will never get anything passed in the House.

Trump Not Happy

After Johnson struggled with the latest spending package, rumors started to fly that Donald Trump was not happy with Johnson.

Even as Johnson's allies pleaded publicly for Trump to offer Johnson some support, nothing has come from Mar-a-Lago to help Johnson.

Quite the opposite, actually, as close Trump ally Steve Bannon took a direct shot, stating, “Clearly, Johnson is not up to the task.”

The rumor is that Trump is livid with Johnson for not forcing the debt ceiling suspension in the package because Trump wanted that to be under Joe Biden, especially since Trump ran on cutting costs, not expanding them.

GOP Caucus Not Happy

Some of Trump’s closest supporters as well as those who are at odds with Trump, such as Reps. Massie and Roy, are just about done with Johnson.

A Trump insider stated, “Members are calling Trump to dump Johnson.” They are further making the same complaint that I have made about Johnson, which is he has no backbone.

Another source stated that Trump may still want to keep Johnson because he can bully him into a position, stating, “The president recognizes that [Johnson] is somebody he can push around. I think he’s weighing the benefit of that with, can this guy get it done.”

Johnson has reportedly been working the phones to get Trump behind him, and we all know that Trump responds to flattery, but time is running out for Johnson. Having said that, if the House turns to chaos and they do not have a new Speaker elected by January 6, the certification of the election is at risk, which would be a nightmare for Trump.
