Jet of Venezuelan President Ordered Seized with Trump-era Sanction

Once again, the Biden administration is starting a fire on foreign soil.

This time it is over the seizure of the private plane of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, which has been dubbed Venezuela’s Air Force One.

According to the administration, the purchase of the plane violated sanctions imposed during the Trump administration.

Lighting a Fire

This latest move is one in a long line of moves that have taken place since the latest Venezuelan presidential election.

After the election, the United States declared the opposition candidate the winner, but Maduro seemed to disagree.

He was not quite ready to give up power regardless of what the people voted, and the government declared him the winner.

As a matter of fact, only hours after Maduro’s plane was seized and flown to Florida, the arrest of the opposition candidate was ordered by a Venezuelan judge.

Maduro has been flying the plane all over the world, but when he landed in the Dominican Republic, it gave authorities access to seize the plane.

The seizure was reportedly a joint effort between the DHS, DOJ, Department of Commerce, and the Bureau of Industry and Security.

An administration official stated, “This sends a message all the way up to the top.

“Seizing the foreign head of state's plane is unheard-of for criminal matters. We're sending a clear message here that no one is above the law, no one is above the reach of US sanctions.”

The United States has demanded that Venezuela release its election data or face even more sanctions.

Keep in mind, the sanctions that enabled the United States to seize this plane were put in place by Trump, then removed by Biden when he was courting other countries to help the United States with its oil problem.

Biden reinstated the sanctions in April after accusing Maduro of failing to commit to a free and fair election.
