Johnson says he would like to see Musk and Trump mend the fence

Congressional Republicans are in a really interesting position because they want to be loyal to Trump, but they also know they need Elon’s money.

To that point, Speaker Johnson (R-LA) is now advocating for peace between the two men.

Musk Wants to Talk to Trump

Elon Musk took the advice of several people and calmed down within 48 hours of the feud with Trump, likely realizing that he may have overplayed his hand a bit.

Right now, Trump has all the cards because he can ruin Musk by canceling government contracts, but that could only be done at the expense of our space program.

Musk had hinted that he would be willing to talk to Trump to mend the fence, but Donald Trump wants nothing to do with him any longer.

Trump has gotten to the point that he even suggested giving away the Tesla he bought from Musk earlier this year to show support for Musk as dealerships were being vandalized around the country in response to Musk’s DOGE efforts.

It’s Over

As I have stated in other reports, we have seen this act play out with Trump before. Once he has a falling out with someone and they can no longer serve a purpose, Trump will toss them aside.

To that point, when Trump was asked if the relationship was over, he responded, "I would assume so, yeah.”

Trump later added, "I think it's a very bad thing because he's very disrespectful. You could not disrespect the office of the president.”

Again, that statement is coming from a man who has insulted everyone on the planet, including presidents in office, yet he is now upset over someone who helped Trump and the GOP win during the 2024 cycle. I think it’s childish.

Mend the Fences

Musk parting ways with the GOP will not really impact Trump because he is not running for office again, but it will hurt the party in the upcoming elections if they lose that money from Musk.

To that point, Johnson is hoping they can work all this out, stating, "I was with the president in the Oval Office yesterday afternoon as some of this was unfolding, and I can tell you, as he said in his own words, he was just, he was disappointed, and I was surprised by Elon's sudden opposition.

"I believe in redemption. That's part of my worldview, and I think it's good for the party and the country if all that's worked out."

My gut tells me that as we get closer to the election cycle, these two will hash it out and while they may not be friends any longer, this feud will be quashed. Musk needs the government, and the GOP needs Musk’s money, but don’t expect to see Musk at Mar-a-Lago again anytime soon.
