Johnson says Musk’s cuts will be in the rescissions package

This week, the House managed to get Trump’s spending bill through the House, although it did not contain any of the cuts recommended by DOGE.

Musk has been all over the media, coming off as someone who feels he was used as a prop, so now Speaker Johnson (R-LA) is in damage control.

Disappointing

All in all, DOGE was a bust, as many of the cuts recommended could not be made due to current laws, but moving forward, those cuts could have been incorporated into the new spending bill.

Johnson chose not to do that, and Musk is now calling out the GOP in the media.

On the new bill, Musk stated, "I was disappointed to see the massive spending bill, frankly, which increases the budget deficit, not just decreases it, and undermines the work that the DOGE team is doing.”

My take is that Musk feels that he was used as a prop. To that point, Musk recently stated that he would be dialing back his involvement in politics, and that would include how much money he donates to campaigns.

Johnson Feeling the Heat

Speaker Johnson is now taking serious flak over the spending package, but now he is trying to save face, stating that he will be sending a $9.4 billion spending cut to Congress next week.

He stated, "The House is eager and ready to act on DOGE’s findings so we can deliver even more cuts to big government that President Trump wants and the American people demand. We will do that in two ways.”

One GOP lawmaker appears to have understood Musk in much the same way I did, stating, "This is why Mr. Musk has no place in Congress. He wants to codify discretionary cuts.

"He didn't find enough waste, fraud, and abuse to fund [the Small Business Administration], let alone reduce our debt. This was a gimmick, he got used, he's now upset."

Not Happening

The support for the cuts by DOGE are not exactly burning up the GOP, as there are numerous Republicans who are likely to reject the cuts when it comes to the floor.

One of the doubters is Senator Susan Collins (R-ME), who stated, “I think it depends what’s in it precisely.

“For example, the $8.3 billion in foreign aid cuts, if that includes the women’s global health initiative as is rumored, if it cuts PEPFAR as it may, I don’t see those passing.”

I think the GOP had a chance to really deliver a massive spending cut in this package, but instead they are choosing to add to the nation’s debt, as I believe our national debt will be well over $40 trillion by the time Trump leaves office. Yet, the party ran on having no budget deficit and decreasing the debt. This is exactly how you lose elections.
