Jordan to join NBC for NBA coverage

When it comes to the GOAT of basketball, few even dare to be involved in the conversation with Michael Jordan.

Well, Jordan is back, just not on the court. Reports broke this week that Michael Jordan will be joining NBC as a special contributor for its NBA coverage.

Post career

I don’t want to spend a lot of time on Jordan’s NBA career because anyone who watched the game knows he is arguably the best to have ever played.

If you want to challenge that, you can probably add Kobe Bryant, Kareem, and Wilt Chamberlain, but that is about it.

After Jordan retired, he was still involved in the league as an NBA owner, buying a stake in the Charlotte Bobcats (now Hornets).

Even though Jordan was the GOAT on the court, Charlotte never really fared well with Jordan at the helm, and he eventually sold off his majority stake in 2023, with Jordan making a significant profit from his $275 million stake (he sold the team for about $3 billion).

Let’s go racing

In 2020, Jordan decided to partner up with Denny Hamlin to create 23XI racing.

Bubba Wallace was given the inaugural ride, and over the next few years, the team added another car, the 45 car, which Kurt Busch drove. Tyler Reddick, who took over the Busch car in 2023, won the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series regular season.

In 2022, the team added a third car, driven by Travis Pastrana.

In 2025, the team absorbed one more car, formerly of the Stewart-Haas Racing team, adding the 35 car with Riley Herbst.

Covering the NBA

I have always enjoyed when the best of the best move to the booth to break down games, and, quite frankly, I am shocked it took Michael Jordan this long to make this move.

Jordan announced the move, stating, "I am so excited to see the NBA back on NBC. The NBA on NBC was a meaningful part of my career, and I’m excited about being a special contributor to the project. I’m looking forward to seeing you all when the NBA on NBC launches this October."

Jordan comes from an era when the game was played tough, quite the opposite of what we see today, with “star” players like LeBron able to take six steps to the hoop and flop when they are barely touched. I have always stated that LeBron never would have been able to handle the physicality of past eras of the NBA.

I was really hoping LeBron would retire after this season, but with Jordan now offering commentary, I would love for LeBron to stick around one more year so we can hear what Jordan thinks about LeBron’s acting skills.
