Judge grants DOJ request to drop charges against NYC Mayor Eric Adams
New York City Mayor Eric Adams just got some good news.
All his pandering to Trump and playing victim worked, as the corruption charges against him were just dropped with prejudice, so he is permanently off the hook.
Charges dropped
For most of his term as mayor, Adams has been investigated for corruption, allegedly defrauding a taxpayer match fund program as well as taking bribes from a foreign agent, among other charges.
My opinion… he is as corrupt as the day is long, but when he realized he was going to be indicted, Adams flipped on immigration and started to call out the Biden administration. This was a purposeful move to get Trump’s attention, and it worked.
This week, a judge dismissed the charges with prejudice, even though the DOJ had requested the charges be dropped without prejudice.
My guess is that the judge suspected a deal had been made, and this was a quid pro quo circumstance. So, to prevent the administration from having leverage over Adams, the charged were dismissed with prejudice to remove the DOJ’s ability to get Adams to buckle by threatening him with bringing the charges back against him.
The wrong move
I have stood on my soapbox many times about this already, and I am going to do it one more time, but this time I am going to rip an op-ed piece by the New York Post’s editorial board, which claimed this was the right move.
The board wrote, “Hizzoner has plainly suffered a personal morale hit from this ordeal; he even announced that he’d stopped reading the newspapers to help him cope. But now he can tend to city business and ramp up a full-throttle reelection campaign — with no cloud hanging over him. About time.”
Well, perhaps if he had not taken money, allegedly, and defrauded taxpayers, allegedly, he would not have these problems.
Numerous members of Adams’ administration have also been indicted, so this was not a random fishing expedition by the DOJ when Biden was in office. To me, the optics on this are atrocious, saying that as long as you work with Trump, there is no crime you can commit that he will not pardon when it comes to political corruption. (Keep in mind, Trump also pardoned a Democrat governor convicted on corruption charges who had appeared on "The Apprentice" with Trump.)
Adams Drops Out
Get ready for an “I told you so” moment because Adams just gave it to me in spades. One of the reasons Adams contended the charges needed to be dropped was because it was interfering with his re-election campaign in the primary.
Well, about 24 hours after saying he could not wait to ramp up his campaign, he announced that he was dropping out of the race with a smirk on his face, as if to say, “I got over on everyone.”
Adams stated, “More than 25,000 New Yorkers signed my Democratic primary petition, but the dismissal of the bogus case against me dragged on too long, making it impossible to mount a primary campaign while these false accusations were held over me.”
Adams then announced that he would be running as an independent, where he will have no shot of winning this race. This is just a way for him to keep his hands on that big campaign war chest of his. The man is fraud, and a scam artist, in my opinion. We were all duped when he was elected, but I refuse to be duped by him again. I despise corrupt politicians, and that is what I believe Adams is.
